How long does it take you to travel to uni?

2.5 hours to get from the upper Blue Mountains to Macquarie. Last year sem 1 had me in 2-3 days a week, and sem 2 I only had 1 day a week. So it's been ok so far.

    Laptops for Uni

I only take my laptop when I have time between classes or want some entertainment on the train. Some students do everything on their laptops - digital textbook, online lecture slides, typing notes. But that doesn't work for everyone and laptop-notetaking would be imcompatible with certain...

    PASS/PAL leaders

I was offered to apply for being a PASS leader for PHL132. Can anyone tell me what it's like to be a leader? How much time does it take up (the actual sessions including time to prepare/revise the material you're helping with)? Even if you've just attended one, what are they like? I've never...

How many days are typically spent at uni?

Science + Arts double degree. I'm only counting the days I had to go in for pracs/tutes, because I watch all lectures online. Sem 1 of first year: 3 days a week (doing 4 units). Sem 2 - managed to have only 1 day (doing 3 units). Got in early and organised my timetable well. ;)

Adding science units to an arts degree

You can do elective units in double degrees, but it will stretch out the degree. At least after the 1st year of a double degree, the task of completing requirements for 2 majors as well as making room for electives starts to look difficult without spacing out the major's requirements even...

    Youth Allowance - Dropping Subjects.

I think you may not receive youth allowance because you'll only be a part time student with 2 units, even though you've been doing 3 units for most of the semester. Why would you drop one in the last week though?? I'm pretty sure all universities have a period where you can withdraw from a unit...

    Best course for quiet person?

I hate to break it to you, but to make it through uni and/or be employed in any field with or without a degree, you'll have to talk more than you may want to. Generally to function as an adult in all areas of life you'll have to communicate with people quite a bit. In uni, you'll have to...

    Socialist Alternative Nuisances?

I generally agree with their causes, but wow I wish they would calm the fuck down. Each time I cave and sign a petition, I regret it. One of them gave me the grouchiest look when I declined to buy their newspaper or sign up for a protest after I indulged them for 10 minutes (I guess they were...

    Typed vs Written Notes

I've found handwriting notes (& drawing diagrams etc.) to be by far the best way to learn the material and keep it memorised. But it often means that watching a 1 hour lecture takes 2 hours with notetaking. Typed notes are very difficult for me to learn though, so I've found the happy medium to...

    What should I do?

Mining/geology is likely to give you a relatively high starting salary and >$100k at some point in your career. "At least" $100k is certainly aiming high in general though... Do you really need that much? Pretty sure it's double the median salary. Study something you enjoy that also has...

    electives in a Double Degree

Does a double degree like BA/BSc leave less units for electives after you choose the two majors? That's what I've heard, but from what I've calculated I would actually have more units for electives compared to a single degree... (I've based this on Macquarie and the credit point information in...

Is a double degree BA/BSc worth it for these careers?

    * Geologist, climatologist, park ranger, science journalist. I imagine it would be great for the last one, but what about the others? Originally I wanted to do a single BSc (Geology), but I have a huge range of interests in science and the arts, especially English. So I'd love to do a BA at...
