In need of advice on whether to drop Maths or Extension History... Or none?

Drop maths. There is seriously no point continuing if you've fallen behind and don't have the motivation to catch up - no amount of aligning/scaling can improve a terrible mark.

Legal studies text book. Should I invest in it?

I mean... buy it if you care that much about pretty colours and have a spare $66 laying around? Personally I wouldn't.

Hahaha that is 2 years of Adv Eng in a nutshell.

    Accelerate in biology?

Have a look at the economics HSC syllabus. If it's a subject that you think you would really enjoy/do well in, I would definitely keep it. If you have a genuine interest, follow current economic news, and can fully understand the concepts, then eco is pretty easy to get a B6 in. However if...

roughly, what percentage of marks will i have to get?

I'd really, really focus on improving your English rank a lot, and with a bit of work in your other subjects you should be able to push those up to top 3.

    Memorising Essays

Definitely possible to memorise a broad essay for legal options essays, but you'll need to have enough extra knowledge that you can add to fit the question. (That's what I did.) For eco, it's probably possible to memorise essay PLANS for each point, but I wouldn't suggest memorising actual...

    Wanting to re-take HSC - 2012

As everyone else has said - don't repeat, it's a massive waste of time. Start uni and dedicate yourself to that.

How many pages should you write for Advanced and Extension English essay q's?

1000 words per essay is a good benchmark for Eng Adv - anything below that is getting too short, anything above that is a bonus (as long as it's not just rambling). Remember to also give yourself time to adapt your essays to the question! If you have a really long essay you can get too focused...

How much Study did you do in Prelim?

Nothing except for a few hours right before exams. None of my subjects tested prelim knowledge for HSC though, I imagine more study would be needed for maths and sciences.

How often do hsc students who do 10 units get an ATAR of over 99?

Quite common. I'm an advocate of doing 10 units, but only if you're doing subjects that you enjoy and know that you can do reasonably well in. For me, I never could have forced myself to do an extra subject knowing it wasn't going to count - too lazy.

Who's is genuinely SCARED about the HSC??

lmao you guys, millions of people have sat the HSC and survived. Don't catastrophise.

Are teachers necessary to get a good ATAR?

Teachers (particularly those who have been HSC markers) often have good tips about exam technique/common mistakes etc. So don't completely discount them, even if you think you can learn the content by yourself.

Depending on how long ago you applied, you could try calling the ATO... When I needed a TFN quickly for a job, they said that they would give it to me over the phone if it took too long to arrive.

    How do you study?

Make a good set of notes throughout the year. (But for eco, make sure you update it with all you Before exams, make essay plans (and/or essays, depending on how much time you have) on every syllabus point that's being tested.

    Is this normal?

Um, I really think anything more than 1-2 hours/day at this point is overkill. So no, it's not normal, calm down and go to the beach or something.

    Handwriting or typing notes?

Typing for me. Much quicker, neater/better formatting, can print multiple copies (so I had a fresh copy to highlight every assessment). Different for everyone though.

Need Help With Essay "Trade Blocs Good or Bad for Global Trade Liberalisation"

^ Definitely agree that you should aim to write as much as possible for the essays. I would also advise against only spending the recommended 35mins on each if you're aiming for high marks. It's pretty easy to get through the multis + short answers in an hour, leaving you 50 - 60 minutes for...

    Effective study skills!

I thought this was an interesting article about long/short study sessions: http://calnewport.com/blog/2007/07/26/the-straight-a-gospels-pseudo-work-does-not-equal-work/ And basically, work out how YOU study best now, so you'll be at maximum efficiency by trials/HSC.
