You adopt the same pseudonym everywhere! Guess who this is? Hmm, I wonder when you'll actually see this... took me a while to notice one of the posts from one of my physics compatriots.

    hmm I don't understand Aussies going to US to study;;

I'd say that it'd be worth it at the top colleges. Princeton, Yale, MIT and Harvard would all have unrivalled academic cultures and excellent faculty - much better than you'd find here in Australia. The financial investement would also pay itself back in years to come.

    Melb vs Monash

If you want to do Engineering, there's no point going to Melbourne. Monash is just as good, if not better. I'd consider the travel if you wanted to work in research economics or something akin to that, but Monash is probably a better place to study engineering. Don't waste your time travelling.

Who has goals of going to Harvard University?

I read on the Cambridge website that there are college scholarships for international students (even though there's almost no general tuition scholarships), so I might email them and ask about the specific colleges which offer these and what you have to do to qualify. *sigh* I think I'll...

Who has goals of going to Harvard University?

I've heard of low 99s getting into Harvard - admission's based on a combination of factors, and the personal statements seem to play an exceptionally large role. I'd love to study at Cambridge though. It seems like admission for international students is mostly based on grades (I think you...

    RACI Chemistry Quiz

You think it's a good competition? I beg to differ. I sat it for the first time this year (in year 11) and scored 29/30 (which was only a HD on the paper). What did I lose a mark for? Question 6, which I adamantly believe can be debated to be either A or B. I was quite devastated, seeing as...

I'm really excited! Two other girls from my year are going for physics, and another's going for chemistry. I'm not quite sure about biology... are there many from your school? I've looked at the international syllabus (which is apparently what we're covering), and it seems like it'll be fun. I...

    Australian Science Olympiads

The top ranked one in Victoria. I'm not sure how familiar you are with high schools in Melbourne though... I haven't found anyone attending the summer school for biology from my school for some reason (some are choosing other sciences). It'd be absolutely hilarious if we had 3 physics...

    Australian Science Olympiads

Woah, we just went back to school today (I'm a Victorian :shy:), and 3 people in my year were accepted into physics, and a student's going for chemistry... I haven't spoken to any of the biology students, but we usually have around 3 of them attend per year! Apparently 3 students were accepted...

Most annoying book of all time

The Da Vinci Code. I loathe it. In year 8, I chose it as the subject for my book review, but unfortunately I was asked to rewrite it. Apparently the reviews weren't allowed to be overtly negative. It really irks me because it's plagued with religious hypocrisy, poorly written, has such...

How do you prefer to learn?

I'm such a visual learner that it borders on ridiculous. I find it exceedingly difficult to actually retain raw information unless i see it in a written form, which renders teacher lectures useless unless I take notes. However, i find class discussions useful for generating new ideas. I find...

    Bhutto Assasinated

Agreed about Musharaff. I don't know many people who actually support his regime. It's certainly a tragedy. Pakistan's been experience immense turmoil for quite some time, and Bhutto was just that beacon of hope for so many of the Musharaff haters.

    Teachers and selective schools

Hey, watch it! I spent my infant-hood in NSW, so I think that I can vouch for the fact that I find Victoria far more liveable than it's northern counterpart, NSW. The climatic conditions in Melbourne presently are much less humid; we have immense (once) green public spaces; artistic talent is...

    Teachers and selective schools

Murder sounds too nice... :haha: My sister should hopefully win over most teachers with her smile, but if that doesn't work, I'll readily support her in her teacher bashing. After all, it'll be justified. Kujah, you're right: most schools have biased teachers, but the vast majority of these...

    Teachers and selective schools

Ha! Blackmail my past teachers? Somehow I doubt the effectiveness of THAT plan... The school isn't terrible - in fact, it's ranked in the top 20 (even though the cohort was abysmal!), but I found that the school had acculumated a large number of teachers who hold biases and conduct...
