    depending on situation, EAS can get you up to 10+ bonus points although i think usual number is about 2/3. and i know OP said that the students weren't athletes, but things like Duke of Edinburgh silver/gold can get you a couple of bonus points.

    depends on the question and how much the question is worth in terms of marks. Anything requiring more than about 3 lines, you generally should add some media articles/laws/case-studies if you want to score in the top band.

    Oranges and sunshine (both the book and movie) is a really good text for as you like it, it's not overused and there are heaps of parallels. On the flip side, the book is apparently quite hard to analyze compared to other texts, it depends on how proficient you are at English i guess.

    You may have to confirm with your teacher, but as far as i was told, you are not allowed to use a text that appears on any English syllabus. Catch-22 is used in ext-1 after the bomb.

    the government could subsidise it like it does for primary/secondary schools actually, sydney is listed amongst the most expensive in terms of public transportation in the world, it clocks in at around 7th.
