    Gamsat

It's "scaled" but the majority of people get marks between 59 - 65. Anything above 70 is pretty good. USyd's cutoff was 59 for 2006 entry and 61 for 2007 entry. But othe med schools popping up (UWS) or took their first batch last year (Wollongong), I suspect it may go down. USyd's GPA...

    Upmyself Medical Drama

In summary: You've been offered a place at USyd (but not UNSW...yet). USyd is giving you money, UNSW is unlikely to be doing so. If this isn't an issue, then take it out of the equation now. As tempting as the money may be now, the program you choose and how well you do will mean alot more in...

Residential Colleges in Uni of Queensland

Well...judging from their O-week list of activities, it's definitely going to be awesome year! Its a shame that since I'm a meddie that we start about a month early...so that I won't be able to attend some of their activities.

    Taking the GAMSAT

Absolutely. Though you won't be able to apply till third year i.e. you have to have complete your degree by the time you're applying or will be that year. But your GAMSAT mark is valid for two years.

    Graduate Medicine

You can pretty much divide the admissions process of universities which offer graduate medicine into two streams: 1. GPA as a "hurdle" 2. GPA as an integral part of the admissions criteria USyd, UQ, UWA and perhaps a few other have the GPA as a "hurdle", that is, it doesn't matter if you...

Residential Colleges in Uni of Queensland

Thanks Trev! Sounds like I made a good choice. As a person who's pretty enthusiastic about sport (though may not necessarily have the time to train), I hope to be able to help IH out with some of their competitions :)

Residential Colleges in Uni of Queensland

Spon888, have a look at the UQ accomodation page. It has links to all the colleges including brief descriptions of each one. The application process for International House starts in September and most places are offered in October/November so you do have to apply quite early on to get a...

    Gamsat

It's all about strategy. My undergrad degree was in the social sciences and I was abroad for two months over the summer only returning three weeks prior to the exam. But yet managed to luckily get a mark high enough for an interview. Best of luck! P.S. The ACER practice questions are...

    Preparation for GAMSAT

Have a look at the ACER website www.acer.edu.au to get an idea of what is actually in the GAMSAT. Your first year units appear to give you a good grounding, but the GAMSAT is an entirely different exam to anything you've sat before, so do some research and plan your study well.

    After med-school...

Time line in Australia is generally: Med school - 5-6 years (undergrad), 4 years (graduate entry) Internship - 1 year (paid) PGY2 (resident) - 1-2 years (paid) Specialty training - anywhere from 3 years (for a FRACP, to enable you to register to be GP) to 5 or 6 years for most other...

Laptop vs. PDA + Paper vs. Diary + Paper

A PDA later on is better. You need to develop good study habits/memorization early on.

    Grad Med

In answer to the original question, yes you can. As long as you have or will be completing a bachelor degree in the year that you sit the GAMSAT, you can apply using the GPA from that degree. I wouldn't necessarily choose a degree in the hope that it could potentially maximize your GAMSAT...
