There's been threads over whether PDA's are worth it, there's been threads over whether laptops are worth it, but pitting all three alternatives against each other once and for all, what do you feel is the best option?

im a PDA + paper book man.. took me 2 yrs to realise it..

A PDA later on is better. You need to develop good study habits/memorization early on.
