Maths Extension 1 trial result: 83/84

What did I do wrong? a) forgot to put "units^3" at the end of a volumes question(1/2 mark), and b) forgot to give a reason in circle geometry question (1/2 mark).

Blargh. :( so close, but yet so far...

1. They dont give half marks in the HSC -----> you would have been 82/84.
2. Get over yourself.
3. Well Done. :)

ishq: sorry, don't mean to brag, just frustrated at myself for making silly errors. My teacher talked to me about the marking thing, said they probably wouldn't take mark off for leaving out the units^3 so he did 1/2 mark off each...

And it was a combination of western region and catholic.

at least you got 1/2 marks. We had to have reasons or we get zero. I stupidly put alternate angles when i KNEW it was corresponding, really wasn't thinking clearly.

you got half mark for no reasoning in circle geometry???

easy marking scheme....... dont think ur teacher followed wester region or catholic marking scheme.

you should get 0 for that.
thats what the subject is all about, otherwise u could just claim any 2 things r equal and prove it.

i got 0/5 for no reasonning in my CG

edit: if its a minor reason u definatly deserved the half then.
I thought u ment no reason at all

I think he meant not giving a minor reason in one of the steps of CG - not completely no reasoning.

It was a "small" circle geo question, only worth a couple marks, and it was just the reason for the tangent^2 = product of intercepts that i left off. Maybe I did get let off easily, meh. Point is I'm still making stupid errors.

Join the club dude. I got 82 because:
1. I worked out a question right, thought I was wrong, crossed it out and redid it and got it wrong.
2. I didn't interpret -5 cm/s as "decreasing by 5cm/s".

senior marker from HSC ext 1 maths came to our school and she said that if u corss out ur right solution and redo it wrong and it was worth eg 2 marks u will get 1 mark for it... however if u dont cross out any solutions you will get 0.

And apparently if you get the method right, but somehow exchange numbers or between lines change +/- signs, then you still get all the marks?

yeah apparently. but i did that in the trial and lost marks.. but in the hsc, as long as you knwo waht to do, you should be okay.
sunshine, you lost NO MARKS. (Well Done btw)
And - Is that 2 unit or 4 unit? :D Though I can hazard a guess..

I think you may be referring to copying a question down wrong. eg copying a given equation and mixing the signs. So long as copying down incorrectly does not make the question any easier then its ok.

Errmmm...that too.
But mostly i was referring to accidently changing signs between lines of working. Like forgetting a minus, or a 1/2 in front of the integral in your final answer...Our maths teacher is a hsc marker and he said that they overlook those kind of minor errors...even more so in 4U.
