It's probably better you stick with 12 units maybe, just for the first term. If you think that subject is really dragging you down, then drop it.

Start of year 12 I was on 11 units with ext 2 maths (school made us do advanced maths and 1-unit ext1 until we were sure about ext 2). Ended up dropping ext2 because my english marks were suffering- very glad I made this decision and am happy with my 10 units.
Many people (peers, parents, teachers) advised me against 10 units but its the best decision i could have made for year 12 because I can ace all my subjects... so basically make the right decision for you and what you feel confident in- But I think first term try and do 12 units just in case
I'd wait until you are a bit further into your HSC before making a decision. If you are doing significantly worse in one subject and you are carrying 12 units, then it is not really worth keeping it.
