I'm using Goodreads to track mine :) of twenty-five books

https://www.goodreads.com/challenges/1914-2014-reading-challenge

Cause last year I had a horrible habit of starting books and not finishing which I'm going to break. For someone that read so much in HS, I want to get back into it a bit :)

Any other BoSers got reading goals for 2014? If so share :)

Kicking 2014 off with the Great Gatsby myself.

God I wish I could be like you people and read. It took me all of 2013 to read 1 book... which I haven't even finished (last 30 pages though).

I use Goodreads too! :) I've set myself the goal of reading 60 books this year. Last year, I set myself the goal of 25 books which I achieved. I felt it was really hard to read during the uni semester and that I read the most during the holidays and breaks. So this year, I plan to read more consistently throughout the year (a bit every day). I used to force myself to finish books that I didn't like. Now I have a general rule of thumb where I read 30 pages or so of a book and if I don't like it, I desert it.

- Macbeth (one of our English Advanced texts) *shudders*
My favourite quote from Macbeth: "For in my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires." I didn't mind studying Shakespeare during high school. Sometimes we got to role play in class and we got to see a film interpretation at the end of study which was fun. You've got a nice list there!

You are nearly there!!! I read pretty slowly and I live watching a lot of television so when I have free time, I often gravitate towards tv. Especially when the tennis is on all day now. But when my eyes start getting red, I return to reading books LOL.

School:

Hamlet
Justice Game
Real Inspector Hound

Non School:

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
The Alchemist by Paul Coelho
Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
Penguin History of The 20th Century by J.M Roberts

Would like to do more but will have to see how I go with schoolwork :(

And Goodreads seems like a good way to track books read, I'll have to try it out, thanks OP

Completely agree with Crobat :p My aim would be to read all my prescribed text from cover to cover without giving up half-way and relying on summaries...

Awesome to see so many with goals, we'll have to keep up with our progress in this thread and motivate each other to complete our resolution.

“A reader lives a thousand lives before s/he dies. The person who never reads lives only one.”

Ikr... I can't even be bothered through my university reading... because I'm a self diagnosed sufferer of ADHD... :haha:

Haven't read any fiction in ages, just got back into reading a couple of months ago. I want to read most of the books on this list as well as a couple not on there: Coding Horror: Recommended Reading for Developers

I'm about 1/3 of the way through the first one, pretty lengthy book (~900 pages)

I have hardly any time now to read with my school texts!
I would like to read:
- Divergent series (up to #2)
- Pet Cemetery - Stephen King (it's feeling quite neglected on my bookshelf)
- Pretty Little Liars series (up to #14)
- I am number four series (up to #2)
- The host by Stephanie Meyer

I'd like to finish reading Tiger's Destiny, the final book in the series and after that I'm not sure. I'd like to try and read the rest of all the books I started but never finished but we'll see how that actually works out... Lol

Divergent series.
Do not do that to yourself.
You will cry.
You will pain.
I am warning you.

I'm guessing this GoodReads is kinda like ICheckMovies?

interesting

Personally, I want to knock off a bunch of what I call "Extramural Books" - my list basically is:

Tristram Shandy, Laurence Sterne (almost half way through this one now)
Jude the Obscure, Thomas Hardy
Company, Max Barry
Machine Man, Max Barry
Lexicon, Max Barry
Orlando, Virginia Woolf
To the Lighthouse, Virginia Woolf
The Heat of the Day, Elizabeth Bowen
But Gentlemen Marry Brunettes, Anita Loos

and then some assorted Bronte books (their juvenilia, to be precise)

I hope to knock off a significant proportion of that this year, and finally clear this backlog of books - some of which I was supposed to read in 2010. <_<

Last year I read about 35 books. My partner read over 200 - I am not exaggerating.

I use goodreads and librarything.

This year I am aiming for only 25 books, since I know I'm going to be flat out once uni starts :)

I am currently reading silly law books like 'The Firm', 'One L' and 'The Paper Chase'. Sure they are nothing like the experience of the Australian lawyer/student, but still - they're entertaining.

Currently I'm aiming for 20 books this year :)

Right now I'm reading the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes but I also aim to read
- The Illiad and the Odyssey (Was reading it but then I stopped and moved to Holmes.. Bad habit of mine T.T) by Homer
- The Great Gatsby by G. Scott Fitzgerald
- Around the world in 80 days by Jules Verne
- The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
- Under the Dome by Stephen King
- The Collected Novels of Jose Saramago
- The Hobbit by J. R. R Tolkien
- The Art of War by Sun Tzu
- 3rd books of the Lightbringer series (If it comes out this year T.T)
- Birthdays for the dead by Stuard MacBride

For now that's all I've got planned
