Harass her until you understand then.
That's what I did to my teachers.

Maths is all about repetition.
Do a large amount of practice questions in order to familiarise yourself with the different styles of questions they can ask on the same topic.
Okay sweet.

So do you guys just do past papers from the red success one book, or go through the cambridge text book or??

Your probably not going to survive further university math if you do this, that's only if you intend to continue doing some kind of math after the HSC.

What do you mean?

Can you explain what way I should be doing... because I will probably be doing a bit of math in uni.

I think what Librah's saying is to not rote the questions, but instead try to understand the concepts haha. Tertiary level mathematics is most certainly going to be much, much harder than HSC mathematics and will most likely encourage critical thinking skills as opposed to repetition and memorisation, which are a lower-order thinking skill set.

Fun fact: HSC dumbs everything down, sometimes unnecessarily so : (

For those of you interested in doing an IT degree applications for the Bachelor of Information Technology Co-operative Scholarship Program@UTS are open for another few weeks.

Highly suggesting all those interested to apply (from my experience the course has been great and shots on me during next year's camp if anyone from bos gets in ;) )

There should be another round opening late in the year for those who want to apply a little later

xoxo

How do you apply and what do you have to do? Is there an interview, do they check your half yearly report?

any bio students out there?
My teacher is confusing us... is tRNA complementary to mRNA?
So for example if:
DNA = TAC
mRNA = AUG
does that mean that the tRNA will be UAC ?

Yes that is correct, another example would be if the mRNA had a AAG codon, the UUC tRNA would bind to it

thank you! omg the textbook made it so confusing, and so did the teacher because first she said one thing about the tRNA, then later on changed her mind. We were all so lost. I can hear people throughout the library from my bio class still discussing it :')

Oh and guys, realistically is it possible to improve English (Advanced) essays dramatically by the time the HSC comes round?
I've been doing so badly all year (averaging in the 60's) and I know I can do so much better, but I just can't seem to get that essay writing formula right.

I feel english will let me down heaps and screw up my atar so I want to try and improve in the 2 upcoming assessments.

btw, all of your HSC mark gets counted towards your ATAR right? Or is it like our school assessments where only 50% is counted?

Everything is counted, both internal assessments and the external HSC exams. They grab both those marks, and then put them BOTH towards your ATAR. So it's 50% internal, and 50% external that makes up your final marks. Not 50% OF your internal marks.

Or am I wrong?

And with english. Just follow the formula. Intro + body paragraphs + conclusion. Then in body paragraphs use PEEL: paragraph point / topic sentence, evidence (quotes), explanation (of said quote), and then link back to topic sentence / thesis. You can do more than one quote in 1 paragraph as well. Just smoosh in a whole lot of evidence, and then under it start explaining said evidence.

Have a good intro. A really good intro. Check out some full mark essays on the web / resource section and have a look at their introduction and just take the structure of it. E.g. thesis is first, etc.

That's how I do it. Someone else might be able to help more - I've been averaging in the 80s. Would like to improve also.

Yes, it is definitely possible.

The keys to English:
Step 1 (preparation) - people prepare in different ways but the most common form of preparation is a 'generic essay' so to speak.
Others prepare by just preparing textual evidence or paragraphs of analysis as opposed to an entire essay.

If you're the type of person to prepare generic essays, you should aim to refine it over time (have a look at exemplar band 6 level essays and see what they did well - however, don't plagiarise - and gather and incorporate feedback from your teacher or tutor if you have one). It's obviously better to go into an exam with better prepared material than worse prepared material.

If you have a good level of preparation, half of the battle has been fought. High quality preparation is essential in any subject, same goes for English.

Step 2 (practice) - students who dump their generic essays onto the paper are usually limited to a band 3/band 4 (depending on the quality of their prepared material). Band 5 is somewhat possible (especially for 'generic' essay questions) but if you want a high band 5 or a band 6, the key is how well you answer the question.

Practise your ability to mould or adapt your essay to answer the given question if you're the type of student who prepares generic essays.

Pick a few past HSC/trial questions and try to answer them (either mentally or you can actually write full essays if you have the time). This will enhance your ability to answer the given question (with your prepared material) on the day of the exam.

One of my friends went from getting Ds in Year 11 English to becoming a band 6 English student in Year 12.

The reason for his transformation? He just improved his preparation (from winging essays in Year 11 to having high quality prepared essays in Year 12).

Preparation and practice.

Studying for English isn't as complicated as some students make it out to be.

anyone know what extra curricular's i should do related to engineering?
It's all about the little things that show initiative. Ask your principal if you can get involved in any community service or school based initiatives and take advantage of everything life throws at you
