I HAD CHINESE CONTINUERS TODAY AND WTF IT WAS SO HARD
Hey here's a cute update for my modern Greek continuers today..
I totally agree that the languages were something else this year.
I'm not sure about yours but it was a really demanding paper.. very high effort definitely unlike the rest of the past HSC papers I did in preparation.. it definitely stood out among the other papers I'd done. It was very VERY demanding.
During the listening component the speakers spoke quite fast and used more high calibre language (which while I was listening couldn't help but think how much the non native speakers would struggle) and there was a lot to write and shorter than usual time to write in between each reading of the text. I finished it in roughly the first 45ish minutes..
The comprehension section was good except there were a lot of how questions, the texts had sophisticated language but nothing too hard there. I spent about 35 min there..
The reading responding question was interesting, we had received a letter from a restaurant owner about an article we had written, disputing certain points of the article. We had to write the original article that the owner was responding to from the perspective of a food critic. Spent about 35 min there too..
Finally the writing section gave tricky options, the 5 marker was write a message to your friend about instructions you received for tomorrow's excursion while they were away. Not too hard but I had to think for this one, especially BCS they look for sophisticated language here. Maybe 10 min?
The last writing section which was 10 marks was a bit unheard of, we had to pick between the two writing options; a) you are a passionate animal lover. Give a speech to your class about the importance of animals and the positives of having one/why they should get a pet. Option B was that your principal has asked you to give a speech on the mobile phone ban and outline the positives of the phone ban. I chose option B because I remembered the 2013 listening spoke about a phone ban and basically regurgitated everything I remembered. I probably spent about 45 minutes trying to decide which option to pick and what I actually was gonna write
I finished with like 10 min left..
Definitely stood out among the other papers I did. There was no easy writing section or writing option.. only the comprehension was okay but again non native speakers would have definitely faced difficulty.. this paper was quite demanding and wanted a lot, but I would say it wasn't difficult in the sense where I couldn't answer something. It definitely would've stopped the rote learners being able to copy paste memorised responses? Perhaps that was NESA'S goal with this year's paper. I'm still glad I got one HSC paper out of the way a year early even tho it was a lot.. there's never been an article AND a speech on the same paper for us. What else did you find in your Chinese Continues Paper? Did you have a similar experience
