i think it might mean that its testing the unit circle but only the top two quadrants
Update: made that test my bitch, got absolutely dicked down, had not as much trig as I thought it would, was a decent mix of simultaneous, nonlinear, cord geometry and further trig. Never mess with me agin

how do i do this?
wouldn't this be differentiation? use the power rule which should give y=2x+5 then sub in your x value which is 1 which gives you the gradient of the tangent (7)
then substitute x=1 into the original equation to find the y intercept at x=1 which should be y=12 which gives you the point where the tangent touches the parabola (1,12)
then use point slope form y-y1=m(x-x1) and sub in your values
y-12=7(x-1)
y-12=7x-7
y=12+7x-7
y=7x+5
which is the equation of the tangent to the curve
and the normal is just perpendicular to that which should be y=-1/7x+5
sorry if my explanation is unclear but i checked in desmos and it looks right :lol:

if it's of any comfort, we're not studying that either and i'm in a private school, but it does look familiar (i learned it a while ago at tuition, have forgotten most of everything)
