hi so i’m choosing my subjects for year 11 and 12. i’ve chosen english standard(?), drama, legal, society and culture, cafs, and ancient history. my backups are chinese beginners (not going ahead) and modern. i’m not a maths or science person at all, so i don’t have a lot of wiggle room with what i can choose. i have 3 HSIE subjects which i have been warned are very content heavy and doing any more is pushing it. i have also got 3 major works as well (cafs, society and culture, and drama) which is also the maximum limit.

i really want to achieve a high ATAR to be able to law at usyd to become a human rights lawyer and hopefully a barrister. i am deadset on doing legal, drama, society and culture, and cafs but i don’t really mind which history i do. i’m really worried i won’t get my subjects because it will ruin my whole sort of plan.

i had to choose another backup option for chinese because i’m the only one who chose it (again, in year 8) and there were literally no other options i could do because would all make me imbalanced ( e.g. 4 major works or 4 HSIE subjects). the only possible ones i could do are music, va, aboriginal studies of business studies which all put me out of balance. i had to settle on 1 so i chose va bc i went to art class for like 6 years and can make a mean painting, but even then it’s adding another major work.

also i was wondering about english advanced or standard. i’m pretty good english like band 5 but i chose standard because i was scared of the writing workload of 3 HSIE subject + advanced. i also feel like i won’t enjoy the course as much because they are doing contemporary texts and i’m a fiend for the classics. but i’m also doubting my abilities for advanced because my teacher said i’d do well in standard but okay in advanced and on my last assignment i got like 70% which is really bad for me i feel. i do also have a learning disability (autism and adhd) so i’m scared ill perform worse in english advanced. i’m basically asking if english advanced is as daunting as it sounds and is it really as difficult????

also wondering advice on how people have managed 3 major works(preferably the same as me) and if also how people have managed three HSIE subjects ?? THANKSSS

if you wanna be a barrister and your serious about chasing a high atar do advanced, no point doing standard

if i do badly in advanced won’t it bring down my atar?? i’m questioning my capabilities of doing advanced tho because all my other subjects except for drama are all writing. is it possible to manage all of those subjects??

if you do well in english advanced, you will be fine for all your other subjects as skills in eng adv translate, to get a atar required for law you would have to get around 95+ for english standard, while even a high band 5 will be sufficent for eng adv
bro 95 in eng std scales exactly the same as 95 in eng adv 💀

I can't really put much input in, but a friend of mine in year 11 is doing Aboriginal Studies, and their work seems to be fairly straightforward. So probably not a very daunting subject, but I'm not sure about scaling. Again, I apologise for my lack of knowledge. I wish you well, however.
