5) What most accurately accounts for the CAtholic Church becoming the largest Christian denomiation in Australia since 1986?

a) Denomitional switching
b) Ecumenical activities
c) Increased immigration
d) Missionary posittion (I mean activity :D)

well it cant be B because ecumenical is the mixing of christian denominations....

in the 1980's there was in increase in migrants from italy, etc i think. i not sure about that, photographic memory

but, none of the other options will fit if you think about it.
A- if anything people would have switched away from catholocism
B- explained above
C- possible
D- i dont think they were converting aborigines in 1986 :p

the italians mainly came after WWII when there was no work after the war. however many lebanese in the 70s who were catholic came, as well as many Vietnamese...so by the 80s, there were many more Catholics.... :) i hope that's right!

frankly now that i've seen the question i explained it as missionary activity, my main reason being the increase of conversions from other traditions to assimilate the the white australia policy, we can also take into account immigration in which after many poeple arrived in australia they join catholicsm, i could be going on bout nothing here but in my mind it made sense...
lol i must be the only one who chose D but i rekon its right
meh who cares
good luck everyone

the white australia policy? after 1986?
And wasn't the majority of immigration in the period after WW2?
I don't get your reasoning

This really isn't a big issue. It's obviously C. check the facts jack. More immigration from italy, greece, vietnam etc etc. mean more catholics--not just irish.

yep it has to be (C). As i said in another thread... hardly any catholics switch. its something only protestant religions experience. Hardly any catholics switch denominations. Missionary activity has 2b wrong becuase there has been any after 1986 and the effects of it were felt b4 1986, not after it. And as 4 ecumenical iniatives... WTF?? i mean how cud that b right?? Ecumencial activities are just when different denominations come together. it doesnt make them swap. lets face it ppl... the answer is (c)!
