A man is currently 3 times as old as his son. 8 years ago he was 5 times as old as his son. Find the age of the man and his son at the current time

Man's age: 3x
Son's age: x

8 years ago, man was 5 times as old as his son.
Man's age: 3x - 8
Son's age: x - 8

If you multiply son's age by 5, you get man's age.
5(x-8) = 3x-8
5x - 40 = 3x - 8
2x = 32
x = 16

Therefore, Man's age: 48, Son's age: 16
