If your final ranking is still only about 4 marks away from 1st, it shows you and the 25 other students ahead you are still doing well in comparison to each other. If everyone continues to perform similarly in the HSC exam, you should attain a hsc assessment mark that is close to the first place holder.

So in basic terms, no it won't screw you over.

Rank matters more than mark. If you're 4 marks behind the person that's first and the 26th highest mark gets 80 in the exam whereas the highest gets 90, then that's what you'll get stuck with.

wtf how does that work?!?!?! so even if i manage to get 90 in the external exams... which lets say is the highest mark, the dude who is coming first gets MY mark?

Yeah, they get that mark as their assessment mark, along with their own exam mark for the exam. You keep your exam mark, but you get the mark that corresponds with your rank in your particular cohort in your school.

Assuming 90 is the highest mark in your class, yes he will receive 90. But thats for his moderated school assessment mark. He still retains his own HSC exam mark which is averaged with his moderated school assessment mark to obtain his HSC mark.

You will also retain your HSC exam mark of 90, and a moderated assessment mark that will be approximately the 26th highest HSC exam mark, which will be somewhere close to 4 marks away from the first place holder.

I suggest you play around with this program and enter marks to see what you will get.
