I was wondering, what does 'ground state metal atoms' mean? Does it refer to the fact that all the valance elections are in their ground state or something?

So... to clarify that... 'ground state metal atoms' are where all the electrons are in their ground state? Hold on, is 'ground state' the state where an electron occupies its normal/ lowest possible energy level...?
