Does someone out there actually get a UAI of 00.00, 00.05, 00.10 Etc. (yes, I know it's reported as "30 or less")?

Well it's just that i read somewhere on this site that those ranks are perhaps for the people who pulled out or something?

But to think that someone would actually be ranked 00.05 is pretty hard..

The lead singer of the resident band at schoolies was a bloke who did the Queensland equivalent of the HSC in 2003. Their marks range from 1 (the top) to 25, called the OP. From what I've heard, getting an OP from 4-1 is extremely difficult, and translates to very high UAI marks. However it is apparently harder to get a 25 than it is to get a 1. This bloke managed an OP of 25, and is the proudest lout you know. :p And, despite the mark, is interestingly intelligent.

Just goes to show that perhaps these people would be proud of their 00.05 UAIs if they were only open to them. :)

ops are pretty stupid

they jump so fast...like 1-17 is like 100 - 70 in uai terms then like 18,19,20 are all in gaps of 5 or something stupid...

something like op of 22 is ok while 25 is shit lol

Yeah, I don't think it's a great system. However I think it's good that all QLD students see the OP as a university admissions number, not something reflective of intelligence. The mindest is different, which is certainly a good thing. When I talk to most about the UAI, it's as if we're discussing IQ scores on a scale of genius to dumbarse.

People with UAIs under 30 don't get told their UAI I believe.

Considering they use the amount of people who sat the SC(not results), then you are most likely correct. In fact a large portion of the 'below 30' group would probably be empty ranks left for the dropouts.

Would you really want to know the exact figure if you got below 30 UAI....

I'm pretty sure some of them would love to brag about getting 0.05.

you'd have to write some bullshit stories to get below 30... or even 00.0 ... that's just insanity.

I will give anyone from the class of 2006 an amount of $550 in an one off payment if they aim for a uai of 30.

Criteria:

1. Must Rank top 5 in 3 subjects

hey,

I think they also take into account people that leave school in year 10, 11 - or dont finish the hsc.

thats why the average is about 70.
so while there maybe people that actually got 0.00 and 0.05 etc - but it would only be a couple. (if any)

Well the UAI is a rank anyway, so someone would have to come last somehow.

If you get less than 30 you simply get a " * " on your transcript.

i had a friend that did crap subjects that ranked low did absolutly no work, left all exams as soon as she was allowed and got a 56. Another friend worked hard all year, did better subjects like Legal studies and got fucked up with a 59. It makes me so angry!

I thould 0-30 then 30-100 were made up of HSC students who want a uai only

if you think about how many people in the state did the hsc this year, divide that into 100 then - the popel who dont want a uai i think it works out for HSC students only ?

I'm not sure what you are talking about here...

the spread of people who got a UAI of under 50 is not published in
http://www.uac.edu.au/pubs/pdf/2005-Table-A8.pdf (table A8)

but 70.9% of people got a uai (actually recieved one) of 50.00 or better.

if the distribution was even then why is there 20.9% MORE people getting a uai of 50 or better than they should..

this is a huge difference, if it was 50.1 or even 55% of people, then i am wrong.

and if you think about it - about 20-30% of people leave before completing the HSC. (obviously some schools will have alot more than others)

They take into account people who did not recieve the uai.
How they do it, i dont know.. im guessing school certificate marks.

If you go to the 2003 School certificate stat page (since we did the 2003 SC)
English - literacy
2003 Candidature - 79173

there was close to 80,000 people.

However 65800 did the hsc this year (taking into acocunt not all of them recieved a UAI)
say 60,000 people did and about 20,000 people did not.
thats about 25% of people. now 4% may have done well (or even very well) in the school certificate (genuinly smart people) but due to unforseen evens (or any reason) they could not complete the hsc.

so thats aobut 21% of the people that left or did not get a UAI, and thats how many extra people would have got a uai of under 50.
