but it's good to take the load off in the final year of your hsc. not only does it give you more frees, but more study time for your other subjects

It's not meant to be a way to give you two goes at your hsc, and give you more free periods in yr 12. I especially object to the "oh well, if I don't do well I can always do it again" attitude - would you put that on your actual HSC year?

sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now. :\

I can't believe everyone's so afraid of being labeled 'Nerd'.

It's the best title. People are calling you smart, how cool is that?

Anyway, accelerants are nerds, simple. They're smart, and thus they're nerds.

i wouldn't mind being called a nerd if it didn't have so many negative connotations. wouldn't u rather be called "intelligent"?

who cares what people call them? my older brother calls me nerd and my bedroom nerdworld, but i really dont care. its actually been transformed into more of a compliment recently. like if someone calls someone else a nerd the first thing i think is...wow they have a secure future.

as for acceleration....its a fantastic practice for the real thing. i did engineering studies and its so good only doing one accelerated subject, cus you have 6x as much time to spend studying. my only regret is that i cut myself short to 9 units this year and now i wish i could do 10. its gonna be nearly impossible for me to get 100 UAI having gotten the average engo mark.

i used to do advanced maths, but wasnt working hard enough, got like 30% for all assesments, so i dropped it. thats the other great thing about accelerated subjects is that there is no harm done if you have to drop them. that being said, accel. maths is fantastic if youre planning on doing ext 2, as your mark doesnt really matter and you will just get a good basis for mathematical konwledge, exponentially decresaing the difficulty of 3/4 u.

glycerines accel 4u english..thats very unique, but i know her mother (eng teacher at our school) and i suppose if you have parents like that, might aswell knock down 4 units, but it would be so boring if you had to repeat english cos you werent satisfied with your 1st mark. on the other hand, it would be so easy to get 49+ in 4u english, as your major work is already set up. you have a whole year to make it perfect, with minimal assesments.

The supreme irony here is that you're the one discriminating against smart people. Nerd is a cummulative label, it can combine with other labels. In my experience, the word nerd wasn't used to imply negative ability in non-academia, just an ability in academia. Conversely, geek, well, geeks can't do anything.

ok.. im lost, why are there physics formulas here?
and josie, why is it that they didnt let out year accelerate in english? did they just think we were too dumb or was it some higher power stopping it for that year.

Well originally they were acceleration formulas, so following the trend and to remain it with school, I chucked in work=change in energy.
