Make sure you have updated Ad-Aware as well before you run it.

just delete them all
if your system is filled with crap, deleting all of them, even if it deletes some important stuff, which i highly doubt, will be better than without deleting

Downloading it today could still mean its out of date. There is a update button, click on it.

Its like your antivirus - you can buy it from the store today, but its still months out of date unless you update the virus definitions.

I went to update today...

you're using ad-aware SE: build 1501...newer version available (1.06): build 1610...
So i click ok and go to the site, click everything im meant to, etc. Save the file to my comp, its a compressed file. So i go "extract all" and it tells me this is done. And then i restart ad-aware like it tells me to. Clicked update again just to be sure, and it tells me this 1610 is available. So, what did i do! It obviously didnt update.

delete them all, make sure you also delete the negligible files, they're in the next tab at the top. They're often the traces of data miners and tracking cookies, MRU lists. ugh too tired to think properly.

to lourai, why are your updates in zip form? i've never had them in zip before...

ok did you actually want to update the program or just the definitions? Cos updating the definitions will still keep your comp safe.

the definitions are usually loaded to this file:

C:\Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-Aware SE Personal\defs.ref

ok 1.06 looks a fair bit better.

i did this and it's working fine for me, no zip file...

http://www.lavasoft.com/

click on link to adaware se 1.06

click down the bottom on download adaware se 1.06. Done through download.com. file size is approx 2.7mb, click open.

then it's initialised itself

tell it to uninstall the orignal. voila. finished. tell it to check for updates.

hang on, when it's checking for updates it says this News: 1.06 lalala released. is that what you're talking about cos it;s just news update.

EDIT: i'm so out of it i have no idea what i'm talking about. someone else offer troubleshooting cos re-reading this i've realised how pathetic i sound.
