i'm going for a rifleman under the GAP year program, so dunno if its similar to an assesment day for an officer entry? thanks for the tip about harrassment policies, any other tips would be much appreciated.
I think the assessment day is pretty similar for officer entry and general entry candidates. Another tip is to make sure that YOU ask some questions as well, it's definitely important to show that you're interested in hearing and learning more.

The page Rifleman | Defence Jobs has all info about both your employment and militatry training. Hope it helps, and good luck! :)

@Auraden - If you go for a specialist job, you'll have specialist testing between the YOU session and assessment day. I was booked for spec testing on the same day as the YOU session. Your best bet is to give your case manager a ring.

@rizz_31 - Congratulations! :D

You get assigned a case manager when you first apply. If you haven't even applied... then this is a pretty pointless discussion.

hey auraden i dont think a gun number requires additional testing, its mainly for the air force they do it and the really important army jobs like commando. jump on the defencejobs website and search for gun number, it'll have all the info you need about it, plus its a good way to get an early headstart on others by researching ur job in preparation for the assessment day....TRUST me u'll need to know a lot about ur chosen job :)

in regards to ur case manager, stallions right, everyone who's applied gets one, but most of ur contact with them is during the YOU session and Assesment day stages, so don't worry if u don't know who it is yet (i still don't remember who mine is!)

just remember, they're super organised at the recruiting centre, as long as you have ur phone by you and check ur emails frequently, they'll take care of the rest!

and also the email i got in the first line it said
Thank you for completing the online assessment. This was the final stage of the short listing process.

Short listing will occur by 15 September 2009.
does this mean i dont get a YOU session until that date?!arfgh!!!

Hey Auraden,

I also applied for the gap year but in the RAAF and I receieved the same email. I started to freak a little when I heard others had already been to their YOU session but I spoke to a DFR person the other day and they told me that 1st round offers have closed, hence the reason we haven't heard anything from them. They said that another round will be offered by September, but until then you just gotta sit tight I guess and prep for everything you will need to know for the interviews etc.

Hope that helps a little.

and i have done the online tests
What online tests? The stupid practice aptitude test things where you stack the blocks?

If so, they're totally unrelated to the real tests. I failed those ones on the site miserably, but passed all the RAAF ones right through to after the board, so yeah, they mean nothing. :)

Yeh I'm pretty sure everyone gets that email and then the people they choose for the first round would have got another email about the YOU session. Yeh it was called next steps. It's really annoying not having heard anything. May just have to wait until Sept. They said that either way if you have been successful or not that you will be notified but until then we won't find out.. :mad1:

yeh nikki is right, everyone got the 'next steps' email after the online part, saying that you have been shortlisted...After that i recieved another email and a phone call for my you session but again nikki is right in that round one has closed.....because they have a huge demand this year, theyre taking groups of people in rounds throughout the year to make it easier to manage....i was lucky enough to be in the 1st round of ppl and now am waiting for my enlistment...but just because some ppl are chosen first doesnt mean we have more of a chance than others, its simply the first who applied got into the 1st round...

so basically stop panicking!! u'll just have to wait until the next email comes through for your You session, which unfortunately could be anytime from now until september

hey i got this from a recruiter because i asked if it wass to late for me because i only applied a week and a half ago.

Hi,

No it isn't too late to apply for Gap Year. Applications for Gap Year do not close until midnight 3 Sep 09 and the second round of shortlisting is done by middle of September.

The people being tested and interviewed now are the first "block" of candidates. DFR will then run another "block" of testing and interviewing during September and October.

From that DFR will then shortlist, and do merit listing for RAAF.
