How does one write/create notes for english? Like how does that generally work? I never study for english bc i dont know what/how to study for it

for my half yearlies (macbeth - act 1 odd scenes) i just really studied in details the scenes and understood them and analysed some techniques but that obviously didnt help me since i ended w a 14/20 (low B)

my sister (doing ext 1 - dropping it next term) said that ‘an idiot if u dont have english notes bc english is the most subjects that requires notes’ umm ok so tell me how/what to write

plz even if u can share like an outline that would be good

also plz no chatgpt comments bc if i wanted ai answers i wouldve asked

do u currently memorise a base essay going into your exam?
No more like an outline bc idk what the exam is going to be abt
Eg
Intro - address the topics + define key terms + thesis
1st body - topic sentence + techniques/justifications
2nd body - topic sentence + techniques/justifications
3rd body - examples while linking to point 1/2 (optional: can intertwine examples in the paragraphs)
Conclusion - rephrase thesis + restate points 1/2

not exactly like that but u get the gist

Do lots of practice papers and practice writing your essay to different questions. Then get your teacher to give u feedback, edit and then repeat

yeah thats what ur screwing up. unless you're gonna be an award winning journalist or george orwell possessed you, you should always be memorising full essays.

this whole "idk what the exam is going to be about" is rubbish. this is classic teacher cope where they say "why memorise a reflection, why memorise an imaginative, why memorise an essay, you dont know what the question will be so why bother?"

it's a literal skill to adapt your memorised essays. learn how to adapt until you can answer every question. the whole point of notes is that you have stuff to swap in and out depending IF the question doesn't go your way.
