In my opinion ext 1 is easier than eng. adv., i mean for extension 1 we were studying romeo and juliet the whole year, nothing else, and i mean by the time u get to the end of year exam u'll probably end up not having to study. I ended up with 77% for 2 units adv, and got 82% for ext 1. Picked up ext 2 for some crazy reason, but yeh. And the thing is when u decide to take 3 units , like someone mentioned earlier, u leave urself with 2 options in year 12, u can either drop to 2 units, or pick up ext 2, that way if u really get sick of a subject or u go really bad, which i hope will neva happen-but everything is possible-, u will be able to pick up ext 2, if not u can always drop if u get sick of english.

I personally looooved 3 and 4 unit English. I hated 2 unit most of the time. So I would *definitely* recommend giving it a try, you may find it's better than the compulsory course.

Yeh, for sure. I love 4 units and i've only been doing the course for one term, its the best. And in 3 units where doing crime fiction "the skull beneath the skin" which is awesome and so gruesome and detailed with all that imagery ur english teacher is always bragging on about.

2 units, oh man, its sooooo much work, even 3 units may get a little hectic, seeing that i ahve 8 essays to write over the summer holiday, however don't let that frighten u. Whenever i feel annoyed at any subject or just can't be bothered studying, i pick up my 4 units diary and somehow my hand just grabs a pen and starts writing, and that's basically what i do for 4 units, and by the time u know it, u've written 2000 words allready....

So yeh, it's always good to give it a go rather than not give it a go at all.

i say definetely pick up ext1 english.

i may seem like a hypocrite because i picked it up at the beginning, got 98% in my half yearly for it, and dropped it, but that was because my teacher wanted me to put too much work into it. in year 11. i was lazy, and wanted to concentrate on maths, which in the end would end up giving me better marks for less work.

however, im still happy i dropped it, because its a lot of work (mainly reading) if you want to do well and not just bullshit your way though. HOWEVER, i believe, like all ext courses (excluding maths) its a subject that expands your mind rather than spoon-feeding you the syllabus. it makes you think independently and develop coherent thought. the only pre-requisite is intelligence.

For me the thing is with ext its a good idea to actually like english. i mean you can be great at adv but not actually like english, so theres no point of doing ext then, unless your one of those marks driven ppl ;)

i reckon the best option to take is to not do ext english. too much work , i say. only do it if you want to have a literature-based career like journalism etc

otherwise, you're stuck with a whole heap of work. in adv eng, u get a text every term and on top of that u have another one for ext. that's up to 8 texts by the end of the year!

well, that's what i think anyway...

nah way, ext english is heaps less work than advanced and because all the texts are on one specific area, it's not as big a deal to remember it all. i did fuck all study for ext1 and got a band e4 whereas i studied relatively hard for adv and only got 85 :)
seriously, ext and adv are so completely different, i hated adv and loooved ext
