Ok basically my understanding so far of the aligning of internal marks process is that internal assessment marks are aligned to the highest external (HSC exam mark) mark, so 1st rank get's the highest external mark as their assessment mark and then all other assessment marks are aligned to it, preserving the gaps between ranks/internal marks.
Going off this, I am ranked 10th in ext 1 maths. Let's say 1st place gets an external mark of 48/50. Since I am ATLEAST 10 internal marks behind first place, my assessment mark can only align up to a max of 38/50. Therefore even if I get 50/50 for the external exam, I still can't get an E4 and would end up with 44/50.
Is everything I said right?
