Hey Everyone...
I am considering med at the end of the year, however, its obviously dependent on ATAR and UMAT - and there is a chance i may not get the marks i want (not negative, just realistic lol) i was wondering what other interesting careers there may be in the field?

Simple titles will do and/or maybe degree ...

if you are serious about med u wouldnt be considering other careers. u should be considering other ways to get in. e.g. gap year (resit umat), provisional entry, applying after 1 year of tertiary study (resit umat), post grad entry (gamsat) etc.

Clinical Research. I'm a Trial Coordinator at USYD and the people I work with all come from quite diverse backgrounds - MedSci, BSc, MPubMed etc. It's a great job if you prefer the admin side of research but still want to be hearing about the research side... I hope that makes sense.

Entry level job straight out of a BSc or Honours year would be as a Clinical Trial Assistant.

what is the umat cutoff for UQ from last year? i think i have a chance here since im eligible for the bonus rank schemes (LOTE and Maths).
what is the umat and uai cutoff for griffith?

out of all health professions podiatry isnt really considered allied health (even though media protrays it that way) it is more of a medical profession or like dentistry in its own field

In australia there are 3 professions that specialise, do surgery and are providers of professional attention, they are medicine, podiatry and dentistry.

Podiatrists scope of practice in australia is much less then the US however in the AU:

-Podiatrists can prescribe medications
-specialise further to do surgery, sports medicine, diabetes etc
-along with medcine and dentistry you can call yourself a 'Dr'.
-refer for diagnostic imaging ie MRI, cat scans etc
- starting salary is from 65k to 110000k
- get in now while its still an undergrad degree cos its changing to postgrad in the future
