god i love this movie. i only watched it recently, and then watched it again the other day... gets better every time.

le temps n'a rien changé. amélie se réfugie toujours dans la solitude ..et se pose des questions idiotes sur le monde ou sur cette ville.
par exemple, combien de couples ont-ils un orgasme ê cet instant?

time has changed nothing. amelie still seeks solitude. she amuses herself with silly questions about the world below.
such as, "how many couples are having an orgasm now?

..et j'ai eu deux crises cardiaques, j'ai dû me faire avorter... j'avais pris du crack enceinte. en dehors de ça, tout va bien
i had two heart attacks, an abortion, did crack... while i was pregnant. other than that, i'm fine

so, my little amélie, you don't have bones of glass. you can take life's knocks.
if you let this chance pass, eventually, your heart will become as dry and brittle as my skeleton. so, go to him, dammit!

sans toi, les émotions d'aujourd hui ne seraient que la peau morte des émotions d'autrefois.
without you, today's emotions would be the scurf of yesterday's.

i think it's bookended by greatness... the pre-credits scene is awesome, the ending is beautiful too, but everything in between kinda drags. still a good film, and audrey tautou is a dreamboat.

I thought it was great, not absolutely brilliant, but still a very good film.

i didn't like it. we saw it for french in year 10 or 11 or something. i thought it was boring and quite ridiculous.

hehe i translated that literally. (i don't know what scurf is). "without you, the emotions of today would only be the dead skin of the emotions of other times..."
man my french must suck more than i remember.

I think you're talking about Love me if you Dare, which I am still to see.

I enjoyed Amelie, and I've seen it a few times, but I think you need a decent break between viewings.

The newest film by Jeunet is A Very Long Engagement. I don't know where you get "Love Me If You Dare" from.

Amelie is a tad on the overrated side, but it's still a good film that appeals both to critics and the mainstream... something that few art films do achieve.

Julie Delpy/Virginey Ledoyen > Audrey Tautou.

It scared the crap out of me.

I watched that movie over half a year ago. I couldn't get to sleep two nights ago thinking about it.
She got so rorted because of one bad decision, and everyone else was so corrupt.
But yeah. Bellucci = Hotness! Have you seen Malena?

P.S. Sorry for ruining your pretty little thread, bubz.

the entire last section of irreversible dilutes the effect of the rest of the film. which is a good thing.

i haven't seen malena, no. i have seen l'appartement though, a great early film of hers (it was remade as wicker park).

she made matrix reloaded a lot better too.

A Very Long Engagement is pretty solid walrus. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed to see Jeunet moving further and further from his dark, quirky beginnings though.
