This might seem like a dumb question, but i'm struggling a little. our question was:

"American drama explores moral dilemmas that are real by extending realism through expressionist and symbolist techniques" - is this true of the plays you have studied?

We studied Our Town and A Streetcar Named Desire...i understand the last part about expressionism etcetera, but im not too sure about this moral dilemma thing. could someone help me out or give me a hint as to what these moral dilemmas might be? thanks heaps

I didnt do our town but idid streetcar.. i think it means the moral deliemas such as blanche's demise of mentality, her rape, domestic violence

and for the other part. theatre extends realism, like makes things more unrelaistic, because otherwise they would be boring to watch... so they extend the realistic moral delimas ( as listed above) for stage...

hope tha helps sorry it sounds a lil confusing

thanks; i think it was the word 'moral' that got me, because we've only really looked at the context of each play and social/cultural issues...but i suppose in a way you could twist that to talk about moral dilemmas...eg with streetcar the conflict between old and new america, the dilemma about where society was heading, talk about how that is represented through the opposing worlds of blanche and stanley etc.... thankyou, you've sparked my idea process :D
