Have been arguing this a fair bit of time, do you reckon the 18th dynasty started with Ahmose or Thutmose I ?

I am leaning towards Thutmose I as it was a completely different bloodline. Some say it's Ahmose because he was really the one who got Egypt back from its knees.

Rave and rant away.

*yea sorry its Ahmose not Amenhotep.

well it was seqenenre tao II and Kamose who began the expulsion of the hyksos, however, ahmose was the one who actually expelled the hyksos and thus established the 18th dynasty (ended foreign rule, hence why new dynasty began). You do have a point there though wih Thutmose I of different bloodline...since that usually symbolises a new dynasty.

Not even historian aggree but the Manthos or whatever his name is the one most noted for doing the chronology has Ahmose as the start of the 18th Dynasty because he expelled the Hyksos however you can argue as much as you like either way as it doesn't really have a lot of significances. Just most historians accept that Ahmose is the start of the 18th Dynasty and not in the 17th.
