Hey i'm am not really sure what this question is really asking like it seems so elimintry and just am wondering what the correct answer would be!!

"the graph shows the level of a pollutant in the atmosphere over the past 50 years.
Describe breifly how the level of this polluntant has changed over the period of time mention of the rate of change."

Ok for some reason i cant get it uploaded the graph, but it bascially the lvel of pollution increase a fair bit at the start and the gradually till 1995 (50 year mark)
I am not suer what to write or does this one involve the equation of growth and decay ot something but i dont think it does because we dont get given any facts ??? so what should i write to get full marks for a question like this one!

Thankyou in advance

If that really was a question 10, then there's no hope for the HSC. I actually thought maths was maths, not English... guess I was wrong.

Anyway, from the graph, the level of pollution is increasing at a decreasing rate, so the cause of pollution still exists, but it is not sending out as much pollution as it used to. Derivative is always positive for the portion of the graph which is displayed.

I presume the graph provided looks similar to, say, a square root graph?

Or something. Was that really a question in a 2u paper?

Personally, I'd ignore it. As long as you know about rates of change and what the various rates of change look like, you'll be fine.

If what you say about the graph is correct this should be whats happening: If its raising it means that dy/dx is positive. Since it is raising at a decreasing rate as time goes by d2x/dy2 is negative
