Yeah, I think 3 is A. He's not working while he's on holidays.

for the question about the $100 on every birthday, its actually 22 installments, not 21. Becoz its ON her birth + every birthday, so really her first brthday is the second payment, hence 21st brthday is 22nd payment

I think I got about 72% raw which is better than I was expecting, hopefully it will be aligned up to like 80 at least

You get paid for the holidays, and you also get 17.5% extra for going on holidays.

Weird I know, but thats how it works.

Oh damn, I had time to check all my answers 3 times at the end but should've written them in my question booklet to look at later ahhh. Now I have to try and remember how I worked everything out...

You know for question 28, finding the area of the curve...I got like 7000 something, but i minused the area of te base, the sides and the area of both the irregular sides?
And this forum makes me cry, i think i got every freakingg answer wrong!

For those of you who did not round 26. (c) up to the nearest 5c will most likely lose a mark.

If you have look at 2006 Notes from marking centre, for a 4 mark annuity question it says most people lost a mark for stupid shit, like not rounding up to nearest 5c.

I hope you all rounded up :p

no your right. whoever gave the the answer as 32... is wrong. its 22.784. My friend got me to do the question right now and i did it and got 22.784. for those that want working:
A= 2.598H^2
H^2 is also the hypotenuse of a triangle sides H,2 and 2

so H^2 = 2^2 + 2^2
H^2 = 8
(now normally one would then square root it, but as the question's formlua has it in the H^2 form, leave it as is)
substitute 8 in,
A=2.598 x 8 = 20.784
now add on the triange ( 1/2xbxh = 1/2x2x2 = 4/2 = 2) = 22.784

If anyone wants me to double check any other questions pm me or something

Crap! No band 6 for me! 22.784 is right! For some reason I had 6 triangles, one on each edge of the hexagon.

BTW you never actually need to know the side length of the hexagon, H. You only need to know H2 for the formula.

So H2 = 22 + 22 = 4 + 4 = 8.

Area of Triangle = 1/2bh = 1/2 x 2 x 2 = 2

Area of Hexagon = 2.598H2 = 2.598 x 8 = 20.784 cm2

Total area = 2 + 20.784 = 22.784 cm2

I agree, I wrote 22 installments because of the same idea.

Yeah. IMO this is a really nasty question.

ev3001 is right. There are 22 payments of $100. So the total amount deposited is certainly 22 x 100 = $2200.

BUT

In this course, Annuities are defined as payments at the END of each year (or month, quarter, etc). The first payment is NOT made at the end of a year. We have to treat that one separtely.

The first payment of $100 is basically compounded at 6% p.a. for 21 years (until the 21st birthday). So this amount on its own grows to 100(1.06)21.

The other 21 payments form an annuity. The payment on the 1st birthday is the 1st payment of the annuity and so on. So this annuity grows to 100 [ (1.0621 – 1) / 0.06].

So the expression for the total amount is 100(1.06)21 + 100[(1.0621 – 1) / 0.06].

That's not true. The ONLY time we ever round to the nearest 5¢ is when dealing with cash. Credit cards, shares, bank accounts, cheques, etc. all still work on single cents. The Australian dollar as we speak is worth 91.2 US cents. No rounding there.

As a rule, when working with money amounts we round up or down to the nearest cent. If the question asks otherwise (nearest 5 cents, nearest dollar) then that what we should do.

The notes from the marking centre clearly say that students should always write down the WHOLE calculator display and not to round off until giving the final answer. In other words, don't round off to the nearest whole number or 2 decimal places or something like that after EVERY step in the working.

No. Question asks for the length of the arc, not the area of the sector.

So length PQ = 60/360 x 2π x 3
= 3.141592654
= 3.14
