Digital cameras have got to the point where pretty much anything you buy is decent.

But at that price: go for anything by Canon, Kodak or Olympus.

Don't but cheap sony digicams is still general rule.

My personal recommendation at that price would be the canon powershot A400 which you can pick up at any electronics store for $299 (i;ve seen it for around the 249 mark on special at places). It's 3.2 MP, 2.2 optical zoom, movies with sound (and up to 640*480). And its canon, so its trustworthy. My canon is brilliant (s45).

I have an olympus C-350 (if I remember correctly). Nice camera. Only advice is go with a known camera brand, that's been around for some time. For $400 you're laughing. Just shop around.

* 3.2 MP minimum
* Get a memory card with it if you can (128Mb+)

Are the other two points to note.

The A400 is an awesome camera. Easy to use, quick, a range of filters, awesome image quality, excellent build. With that extra 100 bucks you could buy a huge (512mb+) compact-flash card and still have money left over.

Edit: Yeah, but you can't go wrong with a good brand name camera in that price range. FujiFilm, Canon, Ricoh, Olympus and Kodak all make decent cameras.

is that the A400 Canon Powershot?

I've got that. I got it for Christmas from my boyfriend. Although I don't wanna know the price..... it's a great camera! But I still need a larger memory card

Depends on what specs you want, preferably it is better to go for optical zoom and MP and just shop around. For instance a 3MP 8x zoom is better than a 3.2MP 6x zoom
