Manual focus is available on every DSLR, no exceptions.

For that price range I might suggest a Canon 400D - still aimed at the beginners market but with some more professional accessories (580EX, better lenses etc) you'll have a pretty reasonable set up.

Or if thats not 'professional' enough you may want to look at any Canon 30D's that you can find, probably all second hand though, but still a more serious choice.

The Nikon D40x is a nice camera, I used one with the 18-200 IS lens and I thought it was great, body felt a little too small for the lens and just a bit uncomfortable though.

So yeah, I pretty much didn't help at all did I?

Goodluck.

Have you considered a dSLR? As for a 35mm, do you currently own any lenses?
I'm too cheap for that >_> I do like that bluey tint old cameras seem to have, you know the one I'm talking about? It's so delicious. I won a vintage-ass ricoh on ebay so I'll have fun fiddling with that until I've decided if this photography thing is seriously for me. Then I'll maybe invest in a dslr, if I can stop wasting my money on other frivolities for a little while :D

Woah, I was just trying to work out somewhere I could post this, and hopefully you guys won't mind me asking here.

I'm thinking about buying a Fuji S50fd.

I've heard that they are really good, (5 stars in T3) and yeah, I was just wondering if anyone had ideas on it/knew if it was worthwhile.

It's said to be about 500 bucks, but yeah - I really want a good small camera as my one now I think is getting a bit old (Fuji Finepix s5000 from 2004).

- site has specifications

OK following on from before. Some things have been driving me insane. This, this and this, for instance. At the risk of sounding silly, how do they get that bluey tinge? Is it a filter? A certain type of film? How do I make my photos look like that! I must find out D:

Not that it matters but I'd say the second photo has more of a green tinge to it.

But more than likely it'd be photoshop.

It could be a filter. Can do them on photoshop.
Or maybe they've been changing the levels, reducing the green and red in it to make it more blue.

Yeay I got an SLR. Old beautiful thing, Ricoh KR-5, all the cases for the lenses and shit are leather so I can't stop smelling them. Just been messing around with it a bit, in love with the wide angle lens. Will post when I get this roll developed and scan the results. Looking to buy a bunch of filters next, I guess.

Also has anyone here experimented with expired film? I've been thinking of getting a couple of rolls off ebay and seeing how much of a difference there is. Do photo shops have problems with developing them or is it all cool and dandy by them?

Rather than digital, although a couple of months ago I purchased a Nikon D60 dslr, it is a lovely camera but I just don’t get any satisfaction out of digital photography, I can get 100% better photos out of some crappy camera I paid $2.50 for at the salvo’s than I can with my $1800 dslr.
I love film, but no body can deny that digital is great, for being cheap, no scanning or shop development/chemical/darkroom equipment costs not to mention time! I have some of my film photo’s here www.flickr.com/vancenebauer<O:p</O:p<O:p

I love photography, I think it can be absolutely beautiful... I wish I could pursue it somehow, or keep it as a great hobby, we will see :)

They don't offer digital photography at my school.

We use black and white film as well.

So its not often that any of us takes a good photo.

Not saying that black and white photography sucks, its just a skill that's really hard to harness.

I've been doing photography since Year 9. It's been great, topping the class in nearly every assigment is excellent *mwahaha*. Hopefully I will get into the Photography course in Uni, as you don't need a UAI to get in. To any newbies to photography, it's a really good subject if you into photography, and have fun! I pefer working in the darkroom, nothing beats seeing an image come to life.

Heres my own photography ... http://jack-off-jill666.deviantart.com/gallery/#_popular/photography
