so i went to the dawn service at 5.00pm and i think that the youth were really well represented which is awesome to see... did you go and what was your observation of the whole deal?
p.s if you do not believe in celebrating ANZAC day then please do not post in this thread or start a flame war. not here, not today

I couldn’t go this year, but I usually go to my local service. I think that the 2002 service was the first one I noticed where there were a lot of young people, not just marching in the cadets or playing in the band or whatever service they were giving, but in the crowd.
I also think that this was because it was the first Anzac Day since the War on Terrorism was declared, and so, we’ve maybe come to appreciate it more immediately, if that’s the right words?

I remember when I was back in year 10, one of my teachers gave me a long lecture about why I couldn't celebrate my birthday on Anzac Day. I told him to get fucked. Which in hindsight probably wasn't that smart, since I had him again in my HSC year.

I went to the big one at Martin Place last year, it's getting massive turnouts now. Usually went to my local RSL march, I was part of the Youth Club since I was 6, so ;) Didn't go this year unfortunatly, and am feeling rather guilty now though. Will definatly make an apperence at the RSL today though!

As for going to Gallipoli, I'd love to be able to do that! Once I finish up my degree I'm going over :D

My sister and brother march wearing my grandfather's medals at the parade in Albury.... I remember going when I was young and my grandfather marched. I didn't get to a ceremony today unfortunately... but I hope that next year when I am in Europe I can go to the dawn ceremony at Gallipoli.

Does anyone else find that mcdonalds ad really sad? Where the diggers disappear? It always makes me cry :(

I haven't 'celebrated' it in a while, mainly because it's my mum's bday and that takes priority. I usually just reflect on it at one point during the day.

lol last time I actually did something visible for it was when I carried the flag for scouts in a march back in '96

I'm staunchly atheist but i have no problem with all the religious crap, australia is PREDOMINANTLY christian by a huge margin (however we are probably one of the more secular nations of the world).

I was in the city today but had things to do so couldn't actually SEE the ceremony. I've never been to an ANZAC event. There were so many people though. I've seen more seniors today then my entire life. It's like they all came out of their houses to go to the event. I didn't know there were so many. Alot of military personnel as well.

Marching for the local RSL when I was a kid was awesome. Anyone else march with their Youth Club? Get the massive breakfast with ice cream and chips and soft drink afterwards in the function hall. Didn't realise at the time, but most of the adults were in actual RSL playing two up and drinking ;)

LOL! I didn't make the Dawn Service this morning, but apparently Bathurst Council stuffed up with the sprinklers down near the service, and so a whole group of people got soaked this morning when they came on....stupid Bathurst Council.

The breakie was great when I was a kid, all this free junk food :p
