So I've got the ATAR to apply in Australia but I want to apply for America by sitting the SAT exams too. But do I have to do both SAT 1 and SAT 2 (also known as the SAT subject tests)?

It depends on the university you're applying to. Yes, you'll definitely have to do SAT 1, but some colleges don't require SAT 2

id recommend to do the SAT subject tests though, will help a lot in applying to any uni there even if its not required.

hardcore stuff is at least math 2 and some science subject or english lit/language composition.
