I have a SHARP EL-553 calculator which is my backup scientific calculator and I wonder why isn't it approved according to this list ?

The only difference is it contains Physical and Chemical constants pre-programmed onto the calculator which is already on the Physics and Chemistry data sheets but would be of almost no use in Maths.

Constants include:
Speed of light in vacuum - c (299792458)
Unversal Gravitational Constant - G (6.67259x10-11)
Avogadro's Number - NA (6.0221367x1023)

Theres a list of approved calculators on the Board of Studies website...somewhere lol

Suggestion: What if you were to somehow reprogram say a BoS approved calculator to include some extra fuctionality that may provide a benefit to someone doing say, a physics or chemistry exam?

That just sprung to mind from reading this thread.

It could be doen fairly easily.
