firstly, quantity not quality takes precedence....secondly, there are roughly half girls but theyre all fobby international students....so basically, for this yr, actuarial sux........

well, there is a lot of work if u actually do it :D.....and if u dont like it u can just quit....there is no shame in that :p

lol emeka (chu?) anyways yeh i heard its pretty even 50/50 but i've also heard that most of the students doing actuarial studies are fobs. what do they mean by fobs really? is it like asian fobs who cant speak english?

umm are they hot fobs?

dont worry about the suicide rate... just remember that you're making lotsa $$$$

i hope when you are choosing actuarial studies you know what you are getting yourself into
if you are looking for girls, look else-where
if you are looking for money, look else-where
the money figures are grossly overstated
honestly if you don't have a love for doing this course you will not make it to the end

he [redslert] speaks truth, yes, dis one does :D. if u want girls that speak english, go do normal commerce or go to macquarie. if u want an actuarial job, aim for coop or go to macquarie. conclusion - if u want to meet good actuarial students and teachers, go to macquarie. and u only get the big bucks if u pass, which is highly unlikely...in macquarie 30%ish of 1st yr entrants make it to 4th yr (thats basically Part i and part ii exemptions)....and statistically, only 30% of part iii students for any of the specialisations (finance, investment, general insurance, life insurance and superannuation) pass, and that includes students who repeated their part iii exams...so basically 9%ish of students..and thats students who most likely got 98+ uais and 90+ in 3u and 4u. so actuarial isnt all its cracked up to be - u have to be naturally talented and a motivated worker to make it. also, australia has a small insurance industry making it extremely competitive to get actuarial vacation work or grad positions...argh, macquarie/coop >.< - stealing all the jobs!

end of story - do actuarial at macquarie if ur good!

only 80 something actuaries become fellows each year in ALL of australia. Its only then that your salaries accelerate, like 150k+.... if you want money, do normal com/law instead

but if you cant practice as an actuary you could always work in the finance sector right? pay there is still reasonable?

you applied for co-op right? i reckon you'll have a pretty good chance of getting in. Macquarie is better for job prospects because most of the actuaries graduate there and find a job easier.

but if u get into co-op you'll have a pretty good chance in scoring a job. Also commerce/law is not out of you're reach. You have a pretty good chance of becoming dux of our school, so you're UAI will be about 99.5+ and that would be able to give you the chance to study commerce-law at UNSW. and you can major in actuarial studies with your commerce degree.

Do commerce...cause there's a lot of asian girls there...but on the other hand...you must be really desperate to go for a course just because of girls...

either way...there's also girls at uni you know...and i agree quantity does not equal quality...
