Are UAIs likely to settle? (1 Viewer)

I entered a few figures for:
2u Modern History
1u Extension History
2u English Advanced
1u Extension English 1
1u Extension English 2
2u Legal Studies
2u Chemistry
and over the past few years the UAI has changed drastically.

Enter 90% for each subject (80% for Chemistry) and you get:
2003 UAI - 96.35
2002 UAI - 97.35
2001 UAI - 98.15

Are we likely to see such huge jumps once again in 2004 or do you think this will slow down to a reasonable level?

I wouldn't call those 'drastic' jumps.

I'd expect the same sort of one or two point variability to continue.

you can't really compare like that....

there have been pretty big changes to aligning process from 2001 -> 2002 and from 2002->2003.

i reckon 2003 should be similar to 2004

and if it goes down by 1% AGAIN that is gonna cause me big trouble... and make me look bad but like are u sure laza that its gonna go down again?

What next?
2003 - 2004 it'll be 1.2?

That's pretty drastic to me...

We really don't know.

More info is going to be released in the full 2003 scaling report later this year - perhaps that will help.

you need to remember that uai is a rank. so you will still be ranked in the correct/deserving place.

UAIs never "go down"

eg a 96 (2001) in 4unit maths scaled higher than a 96(2002) in 4 unit maths.

you can't compare between years like that.

mabye if you looked at the percentiles you may reach some kind of camparision. But that is still irrelavent since the UAI is a rank.

you are allowed a 10% error is highschool related things, so I would say a change of less than 9 uai points is reasonable

There's only so far the marks can go... 100 is the maximum. I predict smaller 'jumps' in the future.

the only thing about the uais going down, is because a lot of ppl are doing better.. ie more smarter ppl doing the hsc

No. More resources and more predictability within the HSC.

yeah when i first came here there were about 8000-9000 ppl registered and now it has ballooned to 15000!!
