if people think it looks crap when drawn on a piece of paper with coloured pencils then its not art.

most graffiti is just some random's name, is not pleasing to the eye, probably required very little skill or creativity to produce and has no meaning. its not art...

does art need skill to be called art? do you need to be skillful to produce it?or can it be a visual representation of someones feelings at a particular time? ive walked into the art gallery and seen white canvases that someone has thrown a bucket of paint over.... and sometimes just plain white canvases, and thought 'well thats a fucking joke', but hey, to the crowd which takes pleasure in this and looks for meaning, its good shit, and i respect that. sure theres good writers and theres bad writers, but there's people who give any activity a bad name. there is a proliferation of bad graffers at the moment, but theres a proliferation of bad song writers and its still art. heard of pop? that shits noise vandalism

Your average 'tag' ---> Vandalism

Pieces ---> Art... some graffiti artists are pretty amazing, and deserve more recognition than they get. An artist I was introduced to called Banksy does some pretty awesome stuff (with some funny/scary social commentary).

graffiti.. tags etc.. debatable..

art is anything with the intention to be art, so in that aspect it is indeed art.
