I don't think you are referring to Agnew. Maybe Henry Blofeld?
Bloey is pretty pompous but I don't see how anyone could dislike him he's delightful. The only bloke on ABC whose annoying me is old Geoffers.

I like Blofeld. And Agnew. As a whole, TMS > Grandstand, which hasn't been the same since Tim Lane left, although Glenn Mitchell is excellent.
Lane was a bit before my time but on the whole I like ABC. Many a nostalgic memory of riding my bike, hanging out the washing or going for a drive listening to grandstand. I'm not a huge fan of Fleming to be honest which is odd because everyone else seems to love him but aside from him I find them good fun and good insight. Glenn as you mentioned is grand, Jim is allways sterling, Skull's a hoot but also knows his stuff, I know you don't like him but I find Roeby is quaint, amusing and generally quite informed. The overseas guys they bring in are also allways really good, in particular Harsha and Aggers.

thats nice, thanks for telling us your life story
Oh shutup will you please your only contribution was to insult a classic test innings, admit to not knowing who Greg Matthews is and had a go at the commentary of he who is probably the most intellectual man to play cricket for Australia in the last twenty years.

Your sentence structure is appalling. Were you able to attend university?

Your comprehension skills are very mediocre, i said, and i qoute "absolute nobody can't even remember his name' i did not state i was impervious to his existence like you idiotically suggested, i said he was an absolute nobody who's commentary is so far biased that it is frivolous. GG

Are you forgetting Mark Taylor, Steve Waugh, even Gilly who are far more articulate than Mathews and are able to present a balanced opinion.

Its as if VB, who are the primary sponsors, picked McGill and Mathews.

GG, Katich's innings was not a classic test innings, just shows how much test cricket you have actually watched lol

Please don't comment further in this thread your lack of ability to comprehend what other posters express is continuous with your yobbo ilk.

I will not reply to your degenerate posts as arguing with idiots like you, will only bring me down to your level and you'll beat me with your experience.
Oh my God you attempted to walk away triumphantly by digging up what sounds like Lisa Simpson line. You don't know a thing about test cricket, when I talked about Ponsford, Murdoch, Sutcliffe etc before you probably had no idea who they were. You've got no appreciation of the Ashes history, of Spofforth and Grace, of Jardine and Woodfull or anyone pre Border that Richie didn't tell you about while you were watching your precious channell nine commentary.

How fast do you think Dravid, Kallis and Chanderpual normally score? Find me a respected cricketing source who don't find their contribution to the modern game invaluable. You want cheap slap happy Micky Mouse cricket and that is not what test cricket is about, certainly not the Ashes.

Macgill was the great intellectual you twat, if you think Waugh, Taylor or Adam Gilchrist are more intelligent than Macgill you have done the unthinkable and managed to lower the opinion I have of you from what it was. As for Matthews he may not be a commercial personality like Bill Lawry but his opinion to those who no cricket beyond the channell nine commentary box(thats you) carries great weight. Peter Walsh (you've probably never heard of him) last week described him as one of the most learned voices on spin bowling in the world.

here let me edit your posts so in the future you can [try] to sound less like a degenerate fool.

Please please deal with what i have factually stated, your dribble is quite frivolous, albeit, difficult to read. Please make a concerted effort to express your views more succinctly and with correct grammar so that your rant is more comprehensible.
I like how you say "assumption" not "wrong". I may well make the odd educated guess but generally they're right, so I'm ok with doing so.

And I'm sure being able to edit makes ya feel all clever and stuff good for you but perhaps you should spend a little less time crossing those t's and say something about the game of cricket that is remotely true or insightful once every six months or so. If you must however play Henry Higgins you might atleast want to make sure that the very post you are using to criticise others(albeit to mask your ignorance about the great game of test cricket) is formatted correctly.

I think this match will be headed for a draw. That's unless Australia tries to bat it out today, leave England with about 250-300 runs to chase on the latter end of Day 4 and the rest of Day 5, and having to take 10 wickets.

its not about feeling 'all clever and stuff' its more about highlighting you inability to present your arguments in a manner that can be read and understood.

You cannot further an argument by assuming you're opponents weaknesses or lack of knowledge. Such views highlight your challenged intellectual capacity.

Someone who has atrocious grammar and sentence structure should feel quite ashamed to highlight anyones formating weaknesses.

This thread was created to express views about everything Ashes related, not to attack poster's ASSUMED lack of cricketing knowledge. But I guess through highlighting your cricketing prowess over my ASSUMED incompetence your hiding your own insecurities. Good luck with that.
Woah, I dissagreed with your criticisms of excellent test match batting, insightful cricket commentary and the injustice you did to a fine figure in the cricketing world. It was not I that turned it inot a personal mud slinging match.

And please don't flatter your own writing. Absent of errors perhaps, good job for editting everything half a dozen but my god that does not mean you've actually written anything worth the paper its written on.

Nice century from marcus north there. Weather reports say cardiff will be underwater when the arvo rolls around though. Declare at 650 i reckon.

Ponting was much too greedy. He should have declared earlier on, nut now it looks like Australia could win! IMHO Hussey needs to be dropped. There is no way Australia can persist with him. If Watson is fit the line up will more than likely be:

1. Hughes
2. Katich
3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. North
6. Watson
7. Haddin
8. Johnson
9. Hilfenhaus
10. Siddle
11. Clark

This team would rely on North, Clarke and Katich taking up the spin duties. I don't understand why North did not bowl in the 1st innings to be honest.

How was Ponting much too greedy? Got the declaration spot on imo. Australia now have around 100 overs (they're gonna try make up for lost time) to take 8 wickets.

I don't really agree with the "Hussey needs to be dropped" either. Sure, he hasn't been performing that well lately (didn't he score a century the other week in the warm up game though?) but everyone knows he is a world class batsman that will hopefully return to form sooner rather than later.

I thought Watson wouldn't be able to bowl for the next few months because of whatever injury he has atm. If that's the case, I don't see him getting picked solely for his batting.

Woah drop Hussey? If the intention was that Hussey play a role in the Ashes then the decision to drop him does not come one innings into the series. Considering what he has proven capable of it is right he be given a fair few chances to regather his form especially seeing he is also a really positive, level headed, hard working person who will have positive effects on team attitude and spirit.

I am not a fan of Ponting's captaincy but he got it spot on. 100 overs is ample time to bowl out this rabble of an England side.

Dropping Hussey is a ridiculous suggestion. Every player goes through a rough trot, and given four centurions, we can afford to carry one bad innings/series from players here and there.

Watson at six beggars belief. We already have a world class all-rounder in Johnson, we don't need another one. The one bowler I would love to see in the squad is Bracken, but selectors don't rate him for some reason.

I've often wondered if perhaps Bracken didn't fit in well with the team. In terms of first class form Bracken was outplaying Johnson at the time of his selection, Siddle at the time of his and Gillespie at the time of his recall. He doesn't strike me as the obnoxious type though.
