1. Hayden
2. Langer
3. Ponting
4. Martyn
5. Hussey
6. Gilchrist
7. Warne
8. Lee
9. Clarke or Watson
10. Macgill
11. Pidgeon.

i think my mix is a good one for adelaide. i'd say clarke will bowl much better than watson, so that could be quite good. but that's less batsman, which is OK if gilly fires. but if watson is quite bowling well, he'd be a good option because he'd bat at six and bolster it. but i'd go for clarke myself.

some english cricket jokes (they're ok):

Q. What is the height of optimism?
A. An English batsman putting on sunscreen.

Q. What would Glenn McGrath be if he was English?
A. An all rounder.

Q. What is the main function of the England coach?
A. To transport the team from the hotel to the ground.

Q. Why don't English fielders need pre tour travel injections?
A. Because they never catch anything.

Q. What do you call a Englishman with 100 runs against his name?
A. A bowler.

I think the selectors should stick with the same 1st test winning team, although they seem to be stuck on the idea that watson can play. My bet is that Clarke will be dropped for Watson, even though it makes no logical sense.
Btw, loved the jokes. Keep em coming

yeah it all depends on the pitch in adelaide oval.....if its spin friendly, they must have another spinner, ie macgill and clarke could be useful with his left arm orthodoxes, but if its more a paceman's paradise then retain mcgrath, lee and clark
id say stick with the same team, or drop martyn for macgill

Drop Martyn, move and slot Jacques in at three, put punter in 4
Then we wouldnt be giving england any chance. might as well, get chappell in there at no.5 and boon at no.3.

anyway - lehamann kicks ass:
batting avg -45
bowling avg - 27.46

he will kick Watson and Macgill ass anyday.

i cant understand playing two legspinners - i mean the poms are crap but still.

I agree lehmann definitely was very underused in the test arena unfortunately. However, i do remember him saying in an interview he wouldn't be making a test return or something like that?

Anyway, the team is fine as it is, if anything, i reckon clarke's place is interchangable. Maybe put macgill in there if it's spin friendly, and if not, keep clarke in there?

Also, IMHO Clark (stuart) definitely needs to play, he's already taken 28 wickets at 17 and has shown he can do a bit with the bat.

Watson isnt really needed (but he's probably the most potent all rounder australia's got)....anyway he's still got that injury doesn't he?

you CANNOT drop martyn. you realise the instability that would cause? he's pretty integral to our batting line up. besides, here's the 13 man squad:

Ricky Ponting (captain) TAS
Adam Gilchrist (vice-captain) WA
Michael Clarke NSW
Stuart Clark NSW
Matthew Hayden QLD
Michael Hussey WA
Mitchell Johnson QLD
Justin Langer WA
Brett Lee NSW
Damien Martyn WA
Glenn McGrath NSW
Shaun Tait SA
Shane Warne VIC

what the fark are they playing at with mitchel johnson and TAIT? they could have atleast put macgill in the squad. it looks pretty damn certain the side for the first test will be used.

p.s. here is the statement with the squad news:

“We are obviously thrilled with the first Test result but we expect Adelaide to be an extraordinarily tough Test match. With that in mind we’ll continue to look at our options to improve the team as we prepare for a series of tough Ashes encounters.

“We have picked a squad of 13 to suit the conditions in Adelaide and will look to finalise the 11 during the course of preparation for this Test match.

“It is very disappointing for Shane Watson that he will not be fit for this match but we are hopeful for a speedy recovery in advance of the third Test.

“Michael Clarke seized his opportunity after being called in at late notice and played extremely well throughout the first Test and again this highlights the strength of Australian cricket.

“The possibility of using two specialist spinners continues to be discussed. That decision is made more difficult while Shane Watson is unfit but it will be reviewed depending on the particular conditions we will face at each venue," Hilditch said.

Yeah i feel sorry for macgill, he should be in the 11 most games. He said a couple of years back that he will be able to play for a year or 2 after warney retires. I dont see that happening. It will be either cullen, hauritz or cameron white replacing warne. Why didnt macgill play in bangladesh? He will be stuck on 198 wickts until he retires.
Also what did brad hodge and nathan bracken do wrong?
I think langer will retire after the ashes.

my ideal aussie ashes team:
langer
hayden
ponting
martyn
hussey
watson
gilchrist
lee
warne
clark/macgill
mcgrath

the english team i would pick
strauss
cook
bell/vaughn (when he is back)
pieterson
collingwood
flintoff
read (jones is a joke)
hoggard
harmison
anderson
panaser

didn't mcgrath do something to his ankle or something??
i remember tony greig said something about. vaughan going to perth for some batting training..or a practive match or something while the second test was on..so i don't think he'd play.. vaughan hasn't scored alot has he?... but his really motivating and his leadership is awesome? *shrugs*

PANESAR FTW! :D even pietersen spins it more than giles. like are you serious.
poor macgilla. no game...

but apparently england are playing two spinners (read it from mX)
