Hello
Just want to ask a question in relation of atar. I am doing the following subjects: Maths Extension 1, English Standard, Business Studies, Software Design and Development, Physics and Studies of Religion 1. Those subjects add up to 12 units I believe and English and SOR 1 are compulsory at school since it is a catholic school. My understanding is the Hsc mark is counted for only 12 subjects. If someone in my school is doing bad for English Standard and SOR 1 and those very well for all their other subjects does those two subjects still go towards the final atar mark because it is compulsory or not???

The ATAR takes into account your top 10 units, which has to include two units of english

English Standard will count. There is no way around this.
Studies of Religion 1 won't count if you end up with the lowest mark. A "compulsory" subject is just indicating that you must undertake that particular subject during the HSC; not that it would count as your final 10 units.
