Hi,
I'm from the ACT but I am just trying to get some idea of what my ATAR may be judging from my report results of Semester One, Year Eleven. I presume the scaling of subjects is similar to that of NSW. I should note that the ACT generally does better than NSW overall because of our small and educated populace (not that NSW isn't educated, but areas in Western Sydney and more remote areas tend to do worse than the ACT on average).
I'm not good at maths (that's why I dropped Specialist/Extended Maths!), so I am unsure of the scaling process and how the ATAR is estimated.
If anyone could give me an idea of how I'm going, that would be great - an ATAR estimate etc. I hope to study a uni course with an ATAR requirement of 99+ (which may be a bit unrealistic but I'll try anyway!). Thank you!
My school rank overall (judging by the median ATAR of the Year 12 ACT students of the year) were 11/20 in 2011 and 16/23 in 2012.
My 6 subjects are as follows:
Religious Studies (scaled fairly highly): 98.4 - APPROXIMATE RANK: 1/200
Psychology (scaled fairly low): 96.9 - APPROXIMATE RANK: 1/45
English Extended/Advanced (scaled v. highly): 95.2 - APPROXIMATE RANK: Whole Grade - 1 or 2/200, Advanced Class 1 or 2/30
Modern History (scaled somewhat highly): 92.7 APPROXIMATE RANK: 1/15
Legal Studies (unsure of the scaling): 90.8 APPROXIMATE RANK: 2/30. Ave class mark usually below 70%.
Maths Methods (unsure of scaling): 58.4
I have completed 25% of my 4 semesters ie. 1 semester
_____ Additional Information and some repeated information ____________
Although it's an independent Christian school, my school has ranked fairly low in the AST (the ACT school moderation exam); but in a recent practice test I did fairly well in comparison to my peers, scoring 41/50. There are a handful of students who do well - overall, including Specialist Maths kids, I am probably in the top 10 students.
In 2012 we came 16 out of 23, had a median ATAR of 75.2 and 68% of students received an ATAR equal to or over 65.
I am probably the top of my grade in the following subjects (if not, the second top): English, Religion, Modern History and Psychology and the second top student in Legal Studies. My grade has about 200 - 250 people in it: all students do Eng and RE, quite a few - possibly 60 do Psychology, very few (15) do Mod History and about 25 do Legal Studies.
