Communism all the way...however i do believe our own "CPA" does lack a bit on the political side and
- their website really bites
- their youth magazine needs to be updated
- They seem to have mixed up alot of the original policies to suit anti-americanism.
- They're selling Guevara and Marx t shirts for profit??

On that note, do you ever see "Gough Whitlam" shirts or Menzies parephernalia?
hell no! Unless its a mock on CNNN (which by the way is a great show).

well im not a full communist, but at least some of their ideals are on the right track.
Much better than our american-inspired tripe from Howard anyway..

Some sites worth looking at are -
www.johnhowardlies.com
www.johnhoward.blogspot.com

Both provide a good laugh at John Howard's expense.. the "lies" page is especially good.

With the revision that fell on the USSR and China, then to the collapse of the USSR alot of communist gave up and declared that there never will be or was any chance of australian proleteriat revolution, even during the depression. Alot said that Proleteriat internationalism is no longer existant. So with these hiccups the CPA fall apart for a bit splits were made and for awhile the CPA was the Socialist Party of Australia, but in the later 90's they took up the Communist tittle. I have been told old members are starting to get back into the parties.

The working class isnt the same, there is a large middle class. Due to imperialism many non revisionist parties like the Maoist parties of the world beleive that in the first world countri the white worker majority would not be able to fullfill a revolutution. That the third world would have to liberate itself first.

communism and traditional marxism shit me sometimes, because they place class struggle in front of everything else (womens', ethno, queer, etc). been reading some interesting stuff on autonomist marxism recently. i could post up links or readings if people are interested.

Marxist is the liberation of women. It removes the traditional family unit and allows the women to work and have equal rights. Faculties are built to house babies and employ nanies to take care of babies when time is right. Marx and Engels wrote much about this, i have yet to read it. In the USSR it was the first place women could serve in the army, and the first place women started getting equal rights.

Lenin wrote about ethnic problems and he gave rights to different ethnic groups in the Soviet control sphere. Ethnic groups had automonus control and could create national symbols and waht not. Lenin to wrote much about this. Stalin in his time allowed the Jewish people to create a home land, this was before Israel. Many jews came to create their new homeland. Although religion was band and they had to have their culture twisted to a new jewish marxist-leninist culture.

Queers, well back then there was no progressive thought or movement. This was way out of their time, classic marxism didnt touch much on this. Some traditonal Marxist thought homosexuality was caused by class society and through socialism this would be created. Today most first world Communist Parties give some rights to the gays.

Although the Australian Liberal Party is not a true "Liberal" party in the traditional use of the word it still shares many of the characteristics of a liberal party. It is in fact something of a combination of a conservative party and a liberal party (see link below for more info). I should point out at this stage that political ideology is very complex and that nothing fits neatly into one box or another. Parties can also change over time whilst keeping the same name (e.g. people have been talking about Communist Paties - they have changed their policies and ideologies over the decades but have kept the Communist label).

Getting back to the topic of the Liberal Party being a liberal party - you will find that a party that goes by the name Liberal could be anything. The Liberals in Canada, Liberal Democrats in UK, Libertarians in USA and of course the Liberal Party in Australia are all very different parties with different position, but they are all based in some way on the ideology of libertarianism - though each has their own slant.

I think the main reason it took the name "Liberal Party" was that when it was created in 1945 as a combination of most of the non-Country Party opposition groups they were all opposed to the ALP's moves to have an interventionist government. As a result they took on the name Liberal. They could just as easily have taken on the name "Conservative Party", which would have given Australia a very similar situation to that in the UK (Conservative/Labour - with the Liberal Democrats the minor party).

I think it is easy to say their constitiuitions is a liberal econmy. Like what they are doing now with telstra, and the free trade agreement. They are liberal in the sense they try to make the ecomoney less buercratic by removing laws that prohibit buisness etc

Ive found the Bolsheviks

I really dilike not living in sydney there is a distinct lack of leftists and their ideologies... Its excellent that you guys can have a proper discussion that analyses the issues wholeheartedly, the intelectuallity and intelligence of the Labor left postings is a tribute to the compassion behind the brands of socialism discussed. On the issue of party, they are being expelled into oblivion because of the carreerism in our parliaments, this is evident in Labors right shifting, and also Liberl's lack of liberalism. Democracy is restricted to the caucus.

Just a general question... Who here is a member of an Australian political party?

Edit: Any general comments would be appreciated, too.

Heh, I would settle for that in time, too, but I'm bored and at the moment I really couldn't care whether I'm pigeon-holed in some way :).

I've never been to young labor itself... the banch I belong to is like a "young" one though. I want to go to young labor, but I have to talk my brother and/or sister into comming with me lol. Apparently its got a lot of bitching and infighting going though.

Socialist Alliance

Yeh, Im in the Socialist Alliance and Resistance, socialist alliance is pretty exciting coz its growing so quick since 1999 when it was formed from 9 different parties mainly the DSP - Democratic Socialist Perspective and the ISO - International Socialist Organisation, aparently our vote is growing at a rate bigger then the greens when they reformed from the NDP. I guess at times ive felt guilty for not joining ALP because its their numbers that kick out the vile liberals but They dont want to abolish HECS, or lower the voting age, which I need, They have taken every opportunity to follow the neo-liberal line... PBS, Free-Trade... and there is just too much emphasis on appealing to the cult of individualism.... plus there social conservatism and trade union beuracracy and careerism kills it for me. Im really kinda happy the alliance got to me first, It really is unbelivable the kind of shit that goes on in the ALP, this election for me it was Jacinta Collins and Family First, out-bloody-rageous.... even though i know a lot of people in the ALP object to the "lesbian-burning" party, the fact that there has been no uproar from within the ALP suggests some approval and i always thought the point of a party was to keep people with the same orientation together, and it is obvious that the religious right is discracefully out of line with workers. I gues that leaves the greens, who rock in every way except they dont take well revolutionary worker politics which is acceptable because there a green party and do have an emphasis on the environmental movement. To Lady Bec, just curious... ive got Ylabor guy at my school who likes the idea of socialist politics but cant convince himself to join a minor party and knows nothing about factions... how do the factions work in your youngish non-young labor branch... ?

well we pretty much agree on everything, so there isn't much of that stuff going on in my branch. I do know a few people who agree with more of the policies of the greens and other minorities, but joined labor cos it's bigger and all.
My parents branch has a lot of infighting though, there's a few people that you just wanna slap and say "why didn't you join the liberals you twat" too, they're that conservative.
On the whole family first thing... I hate the idea, and so does everyone else in our branch... everyone I know in the party actually. There are some conservative elements but I don't think they's any support for that kind of thing. We are after all the left.
The only thing I don't like about labor right now is how fractionous it's gotten up the top. Fractions and fighting are fun at YL, it's no big deal, but it's kinda different at the top. And i REALLY hate one of our councilers, who votes with the conservatives in favour of devolpments against the other labor councilers. If you don't agree with the party line that's fine, but in public you shut the fuck up. Unity is so important, and there're so many people who just don't care.

Im a member of the Communist Party of Australia, im only new and have only been to a few meetings at my branch. Im also the only youth so far.

I was going to join Resistance and SA but changed my mind. Reason: Trotsky following, and they think its the 1917 and the australian working class is revolutionary and has cabalities to carry fully carry out a revolution.

I might join the Young Liberals... my uncle is a good friend of John Howard.
I reckon as a young liberal, they'd provide good snacks and badges..

you all know that is irresistable :p
