Okay so if you haven't read my previous post on subject selection, i'll just let you know that I am a mathematically inclined person. I did my first lesson of tutoring for bio and I absolutely just hated it especially the topic on ecosystems. I haven't even had the first lesson of bio at school yet, and I am thinking to drop it. People from experience have told me that yr 11 bio sucks and in yr 12 it gets way more interesting? I just don't know If I can't wait that long. ( Initially I wanted to take french instead of bio but there weren't enough people to run the subject).

- I am no where near creative ( like I can barely draw a proper stick figure), so I cannot go near the TAS subjects like dance, drama, art , dt, foot tech .
- I don't like subjects with heaps of essay writing
- Engineering studies only runs as a VET course and I don't want to take that
-HSIE and Geo I don't want to take, or economics and legal.

However, I am considering to choose business studies, because it is on the same line as bio . I just don't know if I should wait longer, or just take up business.
- IS business easy as in the yr 11 course? Are the assessments hard? And is there heaps of rote learning ( more than bio?)
PLEASE help guys

Thankyou:)

Can you look into doing french by distance ed?

Have a look at some year 12 biology notes to see whether the year 12 content may interest you more.

Are you thinking of doing Medicine? If so then I'd probably advise you to stick with biology.

People also tend to hate business studies, so it may well be better the devil you know then the devil you don't.

You could end up with a more boring subject.

I am thinking of speaking to my yr coordinator about how I will be able to do french, since I can't do it at school. Is it too late though? And yeah I want to do medicine. But I am already taking phys and chem, with the intention of picking up 4 unit maths. Is bio really necessary?

Also what do you mean by doing french via long distance, does that involve taking it at TAFE or something?

Yeah, HSC Business Studies has a lot of rote learning (not sure whether more than HSC Biology, since that also has heaps of rote learning, in fact most of it is rote), and also has essay-writing involved, which you said you wanted to avoid. Do you think you'd be happy to do Business Studies despite it having essays (by contrast, there are no essays in HSC Biology)?

Just so you know, I dropped biology only cause I had enough and wanted to reduce units. In truth, whilst still not having maths, HSC biology is a much more juicy course.

ATAR wise as you need a high ATAR in order to do medicine biology would be a lot easier to achieve the required equivalent result.

I did both biz and bio for prelim, they're both as bad as each other. Both had shitty teachers, though i found biz to be slightly easier. Anyhow i dropped biz so i can't say for yr 12, bio in yr 12 is way better, i could actually stay awake in class

HSC Biology isn't needed or useful much. You should probably only pick it if you reckon you can get a good ATAR due to doing it.

I actually really want to take french as well, so I will definitly consult my year coordinator I just still hope it isn't too late though. So by doing it via long distance education at the open hs sydney, do I actually attend classes?

Open High School is a distance education language specialist school. Open High School is part of a network of Department of Education schools which provide education to students by distance education. Subject to satisfying certain guidelines, students in NSW secondary and central schools may enrol to study a language course not available to them at their home school. Enrolment is available to both government and non-government school students. Student learning is supported through a diverse program of written materials, telephone lessons, video conferencing, online activities and forums and email. Teachers may also visit the student’s home school and there are study days at Open High School where students enjoy the opportunity to meet with other students and staff. A teacher at the home school is appointed to support the students. The guidelines for enrolment may be viewed on the school website. Students may not enrol directly with Open High School. All applications for enrolments must be made by the home school on behalf of the student.

You also may be able to study it at TAFE and that would have the benefit of attending classes.
