Look, did you go to the seminar at open day?

At least three people (myself one of them) directly asked the reps to speak about this, and all three times the questions were shot down. They spoke very nebulously about the "oppurtunities" of this degree, but then went on to say it was up to graduates to earn employment, not the degree.

This seems to mean that they

a) don't know what the potential fields are
b) don't have what people want to hear

I'd say it's an excellent degree if you're interested in its content rather than what it leads to, but not if you want a clear cut job at the end.

its mainly so you have international experience and you will know the culture and stuff of the country you pick so maybe when you get a job you can be responsible for relations between your coimpany and other companies in that country..

i think international studies is jsut good for experience as you get to live OS for a year.. it wont help that much job wise

While the majority require you to take language subjects, it is only UTS that is really directed towards the 'culture' aspects (and that is why UTS only offers it as a double degree). UTS also is the only program that requires you to pick a country (although some universities might have majors such as American Studies or European Studies or Asia-Pacific Studies etc). Most international studies/relations degrees are to do with International Politics/Diplomacy/History etc. etc.
So does that necessarily make UTS Int Stds with say, Law any less valuable then a general B.Arts with Laws?

I'm just curious because i want to compliment int stds with Law at UTS. Any advice anyone???

Are you talking about the UNSW course? If so, it is my job to dissuade you from doing it as i want to do it and am only jst above last years cutoff and the less people who do it the more chance of me getting in! Sorry i'm being stupid

As for employment prospects, i think you would have similar prospects as an arts students because the UNSW is a really just a more specialised arts degree. The UNSW is a new course and therefore they don't have any idea of where it will lead people but in my opinion this is a good course if it appeals to you and it leaves it open for postgraduate study and things.
