I accepted my offer from uws n im going to enrol, but just wondering if it is a useless degree.. I choose Arts because i want to work for organisations or embassies by majoring in international relations and asian studies. But im scared that its not easy to work in these fields so i choose to combine science with it. What do u think?

I think it is fine, but getting a job at DFAT is very competitive. I can't be certain, but I'm pretty sure that most of those who work at DFAT would have gone to at least a Go8 university and graduated with very excellent marks in International Relations or whatever. They would also have an awesome CV with volunteering and the like. So, I reckon your best bet would be to study your ass off at UWS and then get the awesome marks to transfer to International Relations, Asian Studies or something like that at ANU, USYD or UNSW. If that doesn't go to plan, still work your ass off and get awesome marks (also study and master some Asian language to make yourself more attractive to DFAT) from UWS, do extracurricular stuff, and apply to DFAT anyway--you might still get in. If that does not work out, then join the ADF as an officer, from where you can do your bit in world affairs.

What are you going to study for science? The state is really short of science teachers now, so if you're worried about job security, being a science teacher would quell those worries. You can also be a social science teacher with the Arts degree, so basically you're killing two birds with one stone.

Thank you the links are helpful. I dont want to be a teacher no way. If i dont get a place with dfat where else u think i can work with this dual degree i just want to study and work .. I was thinking of maybe just doing Bachelor of Arts - Asian Studies and International Relations Major in uws but then i say to my self too degrees is better than one. However when i look at the course structure of Science and Arts at uws it mostly talks about science so what if this degree is moslty science? By the way i dont just want work for dfat i also like NGOs and the UN, but i thiught i might start with something to qualify me for the UN

From the best of my knowledge, an academic, a translator or tour guide. There may be more, but I don't know. You could also work for ASIO and ASIS if DFAT doesn't work out, but I wouldn't recommend working in such areas. Have a read of these organisations, and decide for yourself though. The ADF would be better, but if you do choose to join the ADF, since you're female, JOIN AS AN OFFICER. As you may have heard from the news, being a female in the other ranks of the ADF can be quite dangerous.

Two degrees aren't better than one if one of the degrees won't be used!
It won't be mostly science. The number of units you have to do to earn your Bachelor of Science would/should be the same as the number of units to earn a Bachelor of Arts in a double degree programme. My advice is: if you don't like science then don't do it, really. I understand that you want to be versatile, but you should really be doing the subjects that you enjoy studying or else you may fail some of the courses that you are doing, which means a longer stay at uni.
To work for Australia as a diplomat at the UN or at an embassy, you would have to go through DFAT.
