Okay so I was under the impression there is no back emf in a generator
But my class notes say that a DC generator has no back emf
AC generator has back emf due to eddy currents

How can this be?

They both do not have back EMF. A back EMF only occurs when there is a forward EMF. As generators do not have a current in them initially, then the current induced is not called a back EMF.
