yeah but if they are state run places like the US and Australia would never get an even, unbiased and critical analysis and coverage of political issues

oh wait..

i just dont get the obsession with actors and singers, like.. its their fuckin job and its not even that hard.. why dont we focus on people with jobs that actually matter and have actually had to work, people with more than two brain cells. Celebrity worship and the whole paparazzi thing has got to be one of the worst aspects of our culture.

Im not exactly sure what you mean by the "media outlet" comrade, but i think youd get shot back in the mother country for suggesting privatising anything, you filthy servant of the bourgeois.

I actually think he suggested that (whatever the hell he meant) SHOULDNT be privatised... therefore I don't see how he'd be shot. Though in modern-day history he WOULD be seen as a Stalinist pig.

im saying you dont turn on the TV and hear about how Tony the builder spent his whole day working and had just made the last payment on his home loan.

no, you hear about J Lo spending 700,000 dollars on a toe ring or some shit like that.

news shouldnt only tell us what is happening in teh world, it should inspire people with stories about similar people to them, not create this class of elite, overly wealthy people.

you can go back to watching entertainment tonight, i accept that you dont agree with me

sure i spose acting could be hard, but they arent ever gonna have to worry abt not being able to put food on the table are they

No, I don't. There are many things more important than a Beckham sex scandal happening at the moment. Iraq, for example. The consequences of the NSW mini-budget. The US State department interfering in Australian domestic politics. Need I continue?
my thoughts exactly

thats because they worked to get where they are at some point in their lives. You can't generalise by saying "J Lo spent 700k on her toe ring". Do you know what Sylvester Stallone did before he became an actor? He was working in a Pizza parlour. Someone didn't just come along and go "hey, he looks good, lets make him rich". No, in fact he got to where he is by going to many an audition and by working in the meantime! I completely agree that there are better things to worry about in the world than who Becks fucked two months ago, but you cannot possibly put all celebrities into the same basket because there are a few bad apples in the bunch. And anyway, people who want to read about Tony the builder, don't usually watch Seven News (or any other commercial channels for that matter). People who want to hear about "Tony the builder" watch and listen to SBS and read magazines such as New Scientist and National Geography.

In essence, DO NOT GENERALISE!

the point ------> *

you missing it -------------------------------------> **

im saying the media such as Channel 7 should stop reporting pointless stuff about celebrities, and take a hint from stations like SBS that report real world news that people actually need to know about.

i dont really care about sylvester stallone and how he might have struggled before he became big, people need to know about people that are still struggling.

i agree with nick. channel is ten is a good example of giving us rubbish trash poorly disguised as credible news items. FFS, they spent about 25 seconds literally on the coverage of international conflicts over easter and a family of 4 perishing in a house fire in tasmania, whilst they yakked on about beckham's sexual rampaging. also news, gossip, entertainment and feature items override other more important and may i add less frivolous issues.

and aerial, u are re stating ur ignorance every time u post. "they worked to get where they are..." well, another 10 billion work just as hard, but simply becuase they chose not to be in an industry full of self adoration.

i dont agree with nick when he says that acting is not hard. acting has its tough sides but is the job really so important that they are elevated to an elitest class without justification at all. its all comes down to the overacknowledged and underacknowledged ppl in society. oh and sylvester stallone worked in a pizza parlour? give him all my sympathies for his tragic past ok aerials?

Just FYI, the first paragraph in an opinion piece in todays SMH:

There are some things we get way too much information on - such as the private lives of David Beckham, his wife Victoria aka Posh and his alleged lovers. Then on other things we get way too little information - such as whether our spies are really keeping us safe in our beds.
