Our teachers are constantly reminding us that the Board appreciates more 'high-cultured' texts, although it recognizes the influence of post-modernism as validating all texts as a representation. So in other words, it's probably a good idea to steer clear of using mainstream popular culture texts and maybe considering adaptations of traditional texts (think Shakespeare), or even art-house films, as a means of grabbing their attention as well as deomstrating that you have the skills they are looking for.
