hey, I have a genuine question here... not trying to spam.

I've noticed that one of these benefactors has something like 1180 posts... 1070+ of which are in a single spam thread. So assuming all 110 of them are useful, how does that qualify anyone for benefactorship? I mean, I'm sure I've made 100 posts in subject forums at some point too, also helping people occasionally thru pm's etc. I'm genuinely curious about how this eligibility thing is judged, like is there a certain amount or percentage of helpful posts you have to make, or what?

I look for consistency and quality in the replies to questions in their relevant subject areas. I also look at the way they interact with other users - it lowers the quality of the post if a genuinely useful reply is accompanied by sarcastic or demeaning comments.

I don't look for a certain percentage of helpful posts or anything like that as some Benefactors post less than others. I generally do a search on all of the user's posts and try to make a judgement call from there. If they have a lot of posts in General (Non-school, L&R, NC&P etc) forums then I will do a specific search in the area that they specialise in (subject or university forums etc).

However I can only speak for myself as there are other people able to add users to the Benefactor usergroup, and I'm sure we have slightly different thresholds. :)

The 'Vibe' - Minai and Anti selet people on applications according to the tuneful criteria scribed by laz.

The powers that be do not have to give reasons, nor do they have to justify their actions or explain anomalies. Question the utter wisdom of the executive and you might witness a narky causatic offensive like you actually matter (how sweet). Just trust that they know what they are doing.

That is the way in Bosmania. Remain independant.
hahahaha. to the firing squad i will someday go. :)

The spiteful after-effects seem to resonate quite clearly from your past deeds.

Those without power will always complain?

Apart from identifying clearer to other members of the forum as to who benefactors are, they have no real difference in power compared to the rest. And a hierachy within any society is needed, even without a structured government during an anarchic state, there is still the distunguishing of the ringleaders and followers. It is human nature.

I think benefactors are a good idea but they should also add people that are well respected in the BoS community into the Benefactors group.

I don't think I said anything untrue?

1. People are seleted

2. There are no reasons given

3. Powerful people get causatic and defensive when their powers are questioned - if ever so gently.

I didn't say anything untrue. What's your gripe?
Your comments are without a doubt tinged with the after effects of someone who has a gripe against the administration. You may try to word it anyway which way you like, but the very notion and underlying tone of your posts against the admins and moderators, and now benefactors alike, seem quite pathetic when remembered that you were in fact one of the moderators and were in fact dislodged from your position by the general public and the admins for your power mad hold on non school.

I never brought up the fact i dislodged you personally.

Powerless minions? Are you not a powerless minion by posting as a member upon this forum?

Anybody who is selected (or not selected) to be a Benefactor and wants reasons can always PM myself or Minai. I have no problem in explaining my reasons for accepting or denying their application, just that I don't have the time to reply personally to every application I receive.

Benefactors are a group of users who have proven themselves through helpful posts and a positive attitude. As I said in a post above, I will do a selective search in the non-General forum where most of their posts are located if I need to find more proof :)

Please don't make tangential posts in this thread.

3. Like a few I find the idea of benefactors a little puzzling - essentially why does the BOS admin need more powerless minions?
We don't.

The whole point of the benefactors group is to just reward those who contribute, and to make it easier for them to continue contributing.

There is no evil and secret ulterior motive. Sorry.

I think their names shouldn't be bolded too. The bosman is great, but the bolding is too much/confusing and looks crap.

. Taking your example of praising others and criticising yourself: that does neither you or them any good. It creates a power imbalance which they will likely abuse and you passively accept your criticism of yourself, whether you mean it or not (and even worse - you can bet they'll believe you).
this isn't realted to this thread in any way but just a thought brought up by this point. there are some people you can help to the best of your ability and others you can't. sometimes when you help certain people it's all take and no give. it sort of creates a power imbalance because they seem to think that they have power over you and expect you to do things for them. (similary, with some people if you admit you've done something wrong they abuse the new found 'power' you have given them in a similar way)

there are other people who you help and they help you back. it's these people who are much easier to get along with because there are no expectations from either side.

no my take on it was that iambored was merely referring to people helping each other, in a general way just by posting in these forums...;)

For what it's worth I think it looks good...I don't see how it's confusing, just another way to make the members of the Benefactors group stand out to fellow BOS members...I really like the little man though...I agree with natstar and cape, he's cute :)

More study notes, probably. There are some real leeches out there who are practically begging for someone to do their essays for them... however there are also some excellent debates on BOS, particularly towards HSC time...
